Here is the error I get when trying to insert in timeline:

These files cannot be added to this project.
These files may be of unknown file format, the
computer does not have enough memory or the file is
copyright protected.
... the file name is listed...

The same file I just used in another project prior to installing patch gave me no problem. This could be either some Quicktime problem, or the new patch broke something... Al

I don't think the patches are listed separately under Control Panel > Programs and Features. So personally, I would be doing a system Restore. Hopefully you will have a very recent restore point...

Hi Al

Are you referring to a Windows Update or a Service Pack for Video Studio
If video studio what version are you using.

For Video Studio the only way to remove a patch is to re-install the program.
As Ken mentions System Restore of course would be another option.

As the files are Mov Quicktime I would suspect that, check the Quicktime version?

Hi Trevor. Not meaning to gazump Al, he did refer to the latest VS patch, which is in fact SP 1 for X7 released a few days ago (see the top sticky). I think you may have been away at the time it came out. Anyway, have a look at it. One of the things it claims to do is fix some other .mov problems, but this one from Al seems to be a new one!!!

Hi Ken

Thanks for that, I was not aware that Corel had released a service pack for X7 and not noticed the sticky post, yes I would have been away on the 4th June.

I will have a look at that to see if it has fixed some of the Mov issues including rendering to H264? However that does not show in the SP1 notes

By the way Check for Updates via X7 does not show any available.

Al

Are you able to provide a sample that we can try on our pc’s.
If it works for us then the problem is on your system and not just Video Studio.

If it affects all then we can flag it back to Corel.

My laptop does not have the patch, and I can load the .MOV file, so it is definitely something the update broke... Al

PS Also the same file loaded fine prior to doing the update...

When I insert that clip into X7 (with SP1), I don't get any error message. However, I don't get any image either, only get the audio. The other thing that doesn't happen is there is no initial message when I insert the clip, asking if I want the Project Properties to match those of the clip -- though that box is ticked in Preferences. I tried outputting the clip to new formats, but didn't really expect anything, given the lack of image -- and I wasn't disappointed.

I'll draw Yvonne's attention to this thread.

EDIT: I have had no trouble inserting the clip in Sony Movie Studio Platinum 12, Cyberlink Power Director 12 and Magix Movie Edit Pro 2014. The last two also asked if I wanted to adjust project properties to match those of the clip.

I have also sent a message to Yvonne, but wouldn't expect to hear anything back until at least the working week begins in Taiwan, where she is located.

I just tried the test mov clip with VS X7 32bit Ultimate
-without SP1 it works fine
-with SP1, I get the message that it is an "unknown format"

I have other mov files (from my Canon DSLR camera) that work fine with X7 with SP1. The basic difference between the mov formats is that mine is at 29.97 fps while the test mov is 60i fps.

It works fine with VS X6

Thanks for all your tests. The file is 60p not 60i. I uninstalled X7 and re-installed it, adding all the Do More things over again; very painful. I am able to insert my .MOV files again, add Filters, and render as before installing the patch. The install is still with some issues; I get something like a stream error when I try to display the Titles. Probably some Registry item. Does anyone know where the titles are stored?

Hi Al
Thanks for the sample…
Like Ken I am able to insert the clip to the timelines but shows black, no video.
The properties are very similar to the clips created from my Canon 7D, Mov H264.
The only difference is the frame size of 1280 x 720 to 1920 x1080, other than Pal that is.
As Video Studio cannot reproduce these I would not expect Show Messages to work…..

Video Studio X6 did work ok as X7 without the patch I assume, a little slow to playback but Smart Proxy helped there. I will have to re-install to remove that patch.

I did raise the issue of Mov H264 with Corel during the beta testing but they did not feel the format was widely used to warrant change to support Mov H264

Titles

As for the Titles I don’t quite understand whats going on there?

Earlier versions titles were here as part of the “dat” file
C:\Users\Trevor\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro (x64)\17.0\en-US\VS_Title.dat

The library has changed somewhat from earlier versions and copying files across does not work so well.

When you re-installed did you install the same version 32 or 64 bit.?

Try resetting the program by re-naming the 17.0 folder to “17.0copy”
a new 17.0 folder will be generated when starting X7
