Launcher hangs on start, MF4 hangs.. tried everything
Hi All,
I've been a big fan of Ulead products for years. And was happy to see MF4, so downloaded it rightaway. Right now i'm three days further, and nothing works! Tried everything, spelled the forum, patches, updates, uninstall, re-install, different computer - nada.
The base problem is that the MF launcher won't launch. After this it is even impossible to kill the process. The same for MF4. Sometimes it does start when I do a clean boot and then manually start MF4 (not via launcher). However, when I come to the part of actually making a DVD, clicking "Next" after the preview mode (which works) it hangs. Can't kill the process either, have to reset comp. I've tried it out several ways, even with just 1 small video, no effects, nothing special, but it hangs.
Tried MF4 on a very clean Win2K server with Sp4, just for test: same problems.
I've tried to de-install Nero and re-install MF4: no go. Killed McAfee, Anti-Spyware, no way. I've got XP-SP2, 3.4 Ghz Intel with 1 Gb memory. Plenty of harddisk space, I set the temp folder to a 120Gb disk. Also got DVD WS2 and VideoStudio 8 installed (both ok). MF3 worked fine.
Got a regular NEC CD Writer, and an AOpen DL DVD Writer.
I noticed the same problems in the forum, usually an annoyed thread without much info. I'm not annoyed but frustrated, would really like to give MF4 a spin but ran out of solutions except for a Format C: which I don't look forward to. So, I'm willing to test any solution, for myself and other people with the same problems. Any idea?
Thanks in advance, Wiebe Barkey

Helpdesk
It appears that it is a general problem, seeing the numerous posts about it. Therefore I don't think it is something specific to my computer, but to MF4. That's the reason I posted it here, to help myself and others.
Considering the "Goodbye to Ulead" thread I think we have to wait a couple of weeks till mid-August when the update is ready?

How did you get MovieFactory 4?
This seems to be happening to you on more than one machine.
You could possibly have a bad installation file(s) / corrupted.
If you downloaded MF4 try downloading again.
Rename the 2nd download and put the installation file(s) into the
same directory and perform a "Binary" comparision.
You can run the "File Compare" windows program:
fc /B file1 file2 (This will be a byte for byte comparsion)
I use the CD sent to me by Element 5 to install.
Hope this helps,

Downloads
I have downloaded the trial 3 times from the Ulead site, from both mirrors. They are all the same, and installed ok. So that isn't the problem.
My feeling is that something - a process, a codec - is bothering MF4, both the program and the launcher. MF3 nor DVDWS2 dind't have any problem with it so far. Neither did previous versions of both programs.
The fact that i'm not the only one with this problem points to a common problem.

I am have a similar problem. I get all the way threw to the preview and I click next to move onto burning. then my computer completely locks up. Tech support requested I unistall Ulead Data-Add 2.0. I tried that I still have this problem.
I have a P4 2.8 1gb ram, ati radeon 8900dv video card, Pioneer dvr-104 burner, and newest patch. Fresh system recovery and all the Microsoft updates. Nothing else. Microsoft and Ulead. Any Ideas that could help?

You may need to find out if it's related to the material you are working
with or your dvd recorder and media being used.
I would start a new project, make sure under "Preferences" the
"Working Folder" is pointing a a harddisk with enough available space
on it. Load in a mpeg2 compliant video or a simple video and step
through the stages and see if the burning module comes up.
I would also leave any media out of the dvd recorder.

Same problem
Hi. This is to say that I have the same problem. I have posted the problem on the tech help and wait a reply. I wanted this software as I bought a Sony DVD camcorder and as no software was included and i could not connect it to the pc i was looking for a decent piece of software to edit the dvd. It just frezes up. I have patched it like you guys. I have tried a demo of Power Director and it works fine yet it is too much money to spend.
If I manage to get an answer or get working properly I will post my results to you all.

I found that if you uninstall UVS9, reinstall it, then try to capture, you get one shot at it. After you capture once (after installing), subsequent attempts to capture result in this crash. This is clearly a bug in the settings saved after the "first run" of the program. I have submitted a bug report to ULead, but also have not yet heard back (though it was just today
)
Solved problem! But still strange
Hi All,
Posted this before but in wrong thread, Ive solved the problem of the complete hang. I have two DVD burners. One single one dual layer. When I disable them MF4 runs like clockwork, otherwise it hangs like I described.
Normally I render a DVD to harddisk and then burn the DVD files with Nero. So, still using this method it works, but its strange that the two burners didnt bother MF3. Anyway, I can work with MF4 now, but would like to have seen it differently.
