I have been having continual problems rendering in X7, always hangs, none responsive.

I bit the bullet and uninstalled X7, re-installed and did not update to SP1.

Has worked perfectly now.

Bear in mind I was able to create a X5 .vsp file of my project in X7, then and render perfectly in X5.

My project has a mixture of .mov progressive clips, m2ts/avc interlaced clips, jpg, and BMP,...no problem.

There is defiantly a bug in SP1,.. and this is in no way a refection on the volunteers here,...bearing in mind all of the chatter here from other users on this issue,...the silence from Corel has been deafening.

Hope this helps others here.

Is it possible that the original download of X7 was corrupted and the re-installation cured this? Most people have installed SP1 without problem, in my case, it allowed the import of MP4 files without hanging and X7 has worked perfectly since then.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

I agree that a corrupted install could have been the problem, we will never know, but "most people" is not good enough, for me, anyway.

Hi Trevor: I'm still having nagging problems with X7 Ultimate. Shot video in ACVHD 29mbps. The audio (in the video) has low gurgling sounds. I've given up on X7 Ultimate and finished projects in X6 with no problems, no weird audio or crashes. With X7 recent MOV files used for another project have no sound. I did the hot fix in Sept. Maybe I did something wrong.

Anyone else giving up on X7 and waiting to see if things are fixed in X8?

An update on the X7 SP1 pack problem.

You have done nothing wrong Candy.

There is NO doubt there is a problem with SP1.

After reinstalling from the DVD, I bit the bullet and installed Sp1, same as before, hangs up, sound garbled. etc.

Reinstalled without Sp1, works correctly.

Still surprised that Corel is not interested in this issue.

A friend of mine just bought X7U at a great price from Amazon. He installed it, and was prompted to install the patch. He did. He bought it specifically for editing .mov files from his action cam (SJCAM 4000).
Upon importing them, he gets a black screen.
I logged into his computer with TeamViewer to take a look. I also copied his .mov files to my computer to see how they played back in X6U. They played back fine.
Unfortunately, you can not choose another codec (like MPG4) to record the files.
I am "hoping" that the .dll hotfix will do the trick.
But one thing I did notice when I uninstalled and reinstalled X7U on his computer. When it got to the part that it was going to install Quicktime, it said a newer version was already installed.
First, is there a way to know which version of QT X7U would install, and second, would installing that version help?
Suggestions freely accepted!

Hi Tony

When we install the program initially setup files are extracted and saved here:- C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel

The Quick Time installation file being here:-
C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Ultimate X7 Setup Files\Setup\RunTime\QuickTime
View the properties shows the version as 7.4.4

Latest version is 7.7.6, at least for windows 7
I doubt re- installing QuickTime will improve the problem Mov issue but no problems in trying.

Older versions of Video Studio did have some issues using later versions of QuickTime, for many a year we recommended reverting back to 7.5.5

Mov / mp4 hot fix for X7
There were a few issues running some Mov files showing with black screen, Corel did provide several hot fixes in the form of a dll file. (ulmp4lib.dll)
I had problems downloading these from the Corel Knowledge Base so have uploaded to my One Drive.

... Except for those of us for whom it was not a problem...

Trevor, thanks for putting this up in the cloud.
I will try and contact him and change the .dll for him. When it comes to things like this, he is clueless.
When he got the action cam, he asked me which software should he get. Initially, I said X8U, but saw X7U on Amazon as a download for $30USD.
I told him VSP is a great editor and he won't have to spend days learning how to do basic editing. Of course, directed him to Gripps too.
Again, much thanks. I hope to report back success soon!

i am currently having a few problems with video studio ultimate 7. First of all i have a 4 min music video edited, using a mixture of 4kprores files and the 'stop motion' files from corel. The problem i have is that the .mov files keep unlinking. When i try to relink, the files say its a format mismatch. anyway i managed to finish the edit regardless. Now i am unable to render as the files keep unlinking.

I discovered there is a service pack, that i thought might help. I downloaded it and it refuses to install, its says: 'the installed version of the application could not be determined. the setup will now terminate. the system has not been modified . to install this program at a later time, run the installation again'.

i have tried it several times and cant get it to work.

HELP, what should i do??

The message you are getting is Corel's very strange way of telling you that the service pack is already installed

you can check by going to "Help >> About" and checking your version number - if SP1 is installed the second block of numbers will be 1 - like this 17.1.0.22

perhaps you could start a new topic about your .mov file problem and tell us if the files are on your hard drive - or are they on an external drive - that often causes relink problems.

hi, thanks for that. With regards the files, they are on the hard drive on my computer, not on an external. i cant understand the problem. is it because i mixed 2 file formats together in the project? i have found this usually doesnt work in corel. But it doesnt explain the unlinking problem.. i will put out a post anyway and see what i get back, thanks

So, how do I get VidioSudio to stop trying to get me to install the (already installed) update every time I close the program?

Open the Corel guide and click on the two little cog wheels up in the top right corner - choose 'message preferences' and uncheck the "keep me informed etc" box
