Corel Newsgroups down

Post by Joelle »

The Corel Newsgroups at cnews.corel.com have been down a few times over the years, but this time it seems to have been a lot longer than usual.

Can anyone access them?

Whooppee, the newsgroups seem to be working again.
I have no idea what happened, but it's definitely not good for the heart!

There you go. Post it here and it's fixed in a half an hour.

Half an hour would have been good :-), but it took more than a day, a long time when posters are wanting to participate in a Photo Challenge and won't know if the groups are still running!

The Corel Newsgroups have been running for years, but Corel "in their wisdom"(?) removed the links to the newsgroups on their website.
When I asked them to reinstate them (have been doing that for years!), there was a vague we'll-look-at-it-again and a promise to thin them out as so many aren't being used by users, only by spammers.
I made my list, listing every group and how many people used them, handed it over and had an email saying that something would be done.
This is now 2 years ago, I keep going on and on about it, but the person in charge has now left etc etc.

When you put Newsgroups in the search box on the Corel website, there is nothing to indicate where the groups are.
Of course this is deliberate as they want users to go to their Farcebook page.

All very annoying, but trying to see it from the Corel point of view, the total tally of posters in the NGs isn't huge, meaning it doesn't generate funds for Corel and likely costs them something, although it can't be very much.
They're no longer moderated, but, touch wood, the ones in this list haven't been hit by spammers (yet).:

Corel really know how to annoy their loyal customers, tsk tsk.
