error code 80041c21 (failed to encode) on UVS 8.0

Post by chum94555 »

I have seen a few postings on the Error code 80041c21 (failed to encode video) but have not seen any solution to the problem. Anything that helps?

I first render and then only burn and at the end of the encoding process (97 % or so) it stops with the above error

I use UVS 8.0 and winxp Home
For me the above issue is ONLY intermittent

Pl help

thanks

I have seen similar things in VS8 and VS9. But I don't get the error message. I will see the bottom completion bar at 98% and the top (project total) at anywhere from 6-11% and it will just freeze. The program is still responding because the clock is still ticking, and it will respond to a cancel click, but it will not move forward. I have had it happen to me over night, so I know I had given it enough time.

This will be interesting to hear back on.

That particular error code usually comes up when you use an AVI file with some specific CODEC like XviD or 3ivX, which might not be compatible with Ulead products. You might want to check what codecs you are using or use some other converting tool like TMPGEnc to convert the AVI to MPEG2.

I wouldn't say incompatible, I think not installed is more accurate. A damaged file or a codec that doesn't handle 2GB or 4GB limits (the maximum size of signed and unsigned 32-bit integers, respectively) could also cause a problem opening the file.

I am using WIN HOME XP.. and do not DVIX or ANY other files except
AVI files captured straight from my Camcorder using IEEE 1394

Also I thought XP doe snot have 3 or 4 gb size limitations which win 98 use to have.. anyway, this error code prevents me from completing the project ....

thanks

Windows XP can support files larger than 4GB, provided you use the NTFS file system and not FAT32. There are quite a few systems that were shipped with Windows XP Home pre-installed on FAT32 volumes -- a friend of mine has a Sony VAIO that was set up that way.

If your drive is formatted using FAT32, you can convert it to NTFS without losing your data.

Can you try splitting the file into two segments and encode each separately? Take the first 90% or so and convert it to MPEG2, and then encode the remainder? I'm trying to see if there is some damage to the DV AVI file that is causing this problem.
