Sadly, I just downgraded back to AS1
I tried AS2 (64-bit linux using the 32-bit version to keep the plugins). Parts of it I liked better, and a few things worse (eg, the non-window-manager compliance).
But in the end, there were simply way too many bugs. Some of it was faster, but when you figure in the fact that I had to constantly restart it because it would hang on me (futex locking issues; thread-related), it was much slower to get anything done. Combine that with a bunch of other bugs, and it was simply unusable. AS1 suddenly let me be productive again, which is critical for the amount of work I need to get done right now vs the time I have.

Re: Sadly, I just downgraded back to AS1
I think I'm coming to the same conclusion. Too buggy and slow to be usable.
I made the mistake of clicking on a catalog with subfolders enabled, and had to wait 40 minutes for it to load, while the interface froze. I tried killing the program and restarting, but it immediately started loading the same thing. Watching what was going on with strace, it looks like it was doing a handful of locking operations for every single photo in the catalog, which might make some kind of sense for safety if mutli-threading, but given that the interface froze completely, I doubt there was any multi-threading effectively happening anyway.
I've also had a lot of problems with the program hanging indefinitely waiting for a lock, so the multi-threading clearly needs work. REally, What's the point in fine grained locking if you're going to ask for your locks in a blocking mode with no timeout?

I stopped using it as well...it crashes upon saving files (exporting) so it is unusable.

Yep I've also gone back. Hanges, crashes and strange cut and past or profiles where it alters the WB regardless of if I have altered it.

Re: Sadly, I just downgraded back to AS1
Just gone back (for the second time) - tried to trial the very latest release, but after waiting hours to complete import of 17k images into a fresh catalogue, on a fresh drive, the software hung, wouldn't display any thumbnails and just would not respond even after rebooting the PC.
I may try again if there's a version 3, but I won't hold my breath.

Unfortunately after uninstalling ASP2 I was unable to get ASP 1 working again either. So at this point I might have to start looking at Lightroom.

Re: Sadly, I just downgraded back to AS1
I deleted my catalog file, and had to re-enter my SN to got the program to run without freezing. I suspect there may be a compatibility issue between ASP1-2 catalogs.

Re: Sadly, I just downgraded back to AS1
People should post here if they try the latest version of AS2 and find it actually is functioning well enough for the rest of us to try switching again. We should do round-robin with who gets to try the next version

Personally I'm using Bibble5 as I prefer the colours for NEF, even though it crashes a little more and misses certain features. Bez works better in B5 because it doesn't have to work in linear gamma space. I'm not using any of them for Fuji X-trans.

I didn't upgrade to AS2. I didn't like what I was reading and I don't want to lose Noise Ninja.
I'll stick with AS1 until I can replace it with something that works better.

I had the idea that you could run both. As long as you keep separate the user and catalog directives

So far I've been unimpressed. I'll give them a few more shots, but I'm starting to think I made a mistake going with ASP ... DxO, despite its hefty price, is starting to look pretty good.

Using ASP2 64bit alongside ASP1 on Ubuntu 14.04
ASP2 works fine, no problems really.

Re: Sadly, I just downgraded back to AS1
DxO can create excellent results. However it's incredibly cumbersome to navigate image to image and the processing/output can take on the order of hours if you're not on a relatively fast system. I'd say it's at least 10 times slower than ASP. The lens corrections and noise handling are unmatched as far as I can see with my camera/lens combos though.F8Driver wrote:So far I've been unimpressed.
