It crashes my VS as well.
I tried it in my normal editing app, Grass Valley Edius, which it also crashes.
Researching the grass valley forums on the error message shows either the file is missing some of it's data, or it's an odd type of file wrapped in the MOV container.
My version of edius isn't right up to date.
Premiere Pro would import and edit it though.

Edius Trial opens that MOVs without any problem. No problem of opening them in any application except Corel's one

I'm still on 6.5, not upgraded to 7 as no need yet.
In which case the answer appears to be to use another app, sometimes it is the only way forward.

Hi
I can open two of the files using Video Studio X7

4K100MbitISO6400+3Exp.mov
FHD200MbitISO200-6400.mov

The other two crash Video Studio without any error messages other than just “stopped working”
4K100MbitISO200-6400.mov
FHD200MbitISO6400+3Exp.mov

Viewing the details in Windows Explorer (Properties Details) shows some info for the good files but nothing for the bad two, clearly Windows is not reading these files correctly.

MediaInfo shows the frame sizes as 1920 x 1080 for good files and 3840 x 2160 for the bad files.

4K100MbitISO6400+3Exp.mov shows as using a 110Mbps data rate?

I have never worked with 4K type files.
Where did your files come from, were the originals converted to 4k or recorded as 4K
If converted what were the original files :?: are you able to use those with Video Studio to convert to 4K

I tried to import (right click, import media or drag from desktop) MP4 (XAVC-S 60Mbps) from Sony FDR-AX100. VideoStudio Pro x7 64b-bit Corporate Edition under Windows 8.1 Enterprise crashes without message also.

That files are directly from Lumix GH4 camera.
Windows can play that videos without any problem with HW acceleration, even 4K

I can confirm the same issue when importing 4K files shot with a GH4. They import without a problem in VS X5 but those same files crash VS X7 using either the 32bit or 64bit versions on Windows 7 Pro. I thought SP1 would fix this but now those same .mov files when imported show as audio files only and when trying to play the clip it then crashes. I guess you could call that progress ;)

I sent in a sample file to support and it crashed the same way on their PC but apparently it didn't get fixed in time for SP1.

The files play just fine in Media Player or Quicktime.

Videostudio X6 Ultimate 64bit also Crash with 4K Files from a Pansonic GH4.
I downloaded then the testversion X7 64bit which also Crash.
The Adobbe Premiere Elements 12 and Nero 2014 can handle the files without problems.
When I take the output of Adobe or Nero I can open this 4K files then with the Videostudio X6 or X7.

I fear after years with the Videostudio I have to change to Adobe or Nero, as also the new Fix for the X7 (exchanging the mp4 file) didin´t solve the issue.

Or is there a working solution ?

Hi Guys

Can you try updating your program with this “hotfix” provided by Corel via the Knowledge Base

Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH3 or DMC-GH4 Fix

Please let us know if this helps, or indeed does nothing.

I have just tried on my system and I am now able to insert the samples provided by Rambalac, but not done any editing.

I installed the hotfix in my X7, and have no trouble inserting any of those clips whose links are provided above by Rambalac.

However, there are a couple of "buts..."

First off, the 4K clips only play smoothly in Project mode. In Clip mode, both video and audio jump at one second intervals for the first few seconds and then every quarter second or so for the rest of the clip. The FHD clips play smoothly in both Clip and Project mode.

The second 'problem' is that neither sort of clip brings up the message asking if I want the Project Properties to match those of the first clip I insert in the timeline. I repeated this a couple of times each time closing X6, and trying a different clip when I reopened the program. That box is of course ticked in Preferences > General. The result is, of course, that the Project Properties are the X7 default ones. Thus, after editing, if you go to Share and choose 'Same As Project Properties' you will only get a new clip with default Properties and not properties matching the original. 'Same As First Clip' is not active.

You can, of course, still choose one of the 4K options in Share > AVC/H.264, but these do not include the 24P of the original. (The only 24P option is 1920 x 1080). And of course the audio format is different, as -- I assume -- is the bitrate. I say 'assume' since the X7 Properties box does not even record a bitrate for the original clip, so I am relying on the title assigned to these two 4K files which indicate their bitrate is 100 mbps...

I am using Video Studio Pro X7 (someplaces its says Ultimate). I have a new Panasonic VX-870 camcorder which produces 4k MP4 files, which crash the computer when I try to read them in. I see in lots of places that Panasonic 4k files crash the program (the files play OK – though jerkily – in Media Player).

It seems there are various hotfixes available - I am not sure which one to use (I am using a 32bit program on a 64 bit Windows 7 computer.)

Following this reply by lata:

“Can you try updating your program with this “hotfix” provided by Corel via the Knowledge Base

Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH3 or DMC-GH4 Fix”

If I go there it says system is down for maintenance. Is that really so – will it be available soon? Is that the right hotfix?

In the Knowledgebase I found that if I renamed the file .MOV it said it should work – however it crashed it again. This time I could see an error report which said that the faulting module was ulmp4lib.dll (as mentioned at https://support.corel.com/hc/en-us/arti ... ltimate-X7).

So I went to the link given for a hotfix ftp://coreluserd:Qgo69iX7@cfs2.corel.co ... H3/x86.zip

However it said "530 Login incorrect."

There was only one ulmp4lib.dll error in the error report, so clearly the MP4 format which I tried to read in earlier did not give the same error. Therefore I wonder if renaming the file is going to fix that, or just lead to a second error.

What is the best way to proceed? Obviously I do not want to apply the wrong hotfix.

Thanks, Jim.

Hi Jim

Please view this post

I am not sure that this fix helps with 4K video, but you can try and replace that file.

The link to my one drive contains the latest ulmp4lib.dll file I received from Corel.

Thanks - I've downloaded the zip file and got the information. Before I go further - can I check one thing?

The instructions says if you have the 32 bit version, to copy the .dll file using the X64 folder, and if you have the 64 bit version, to copy the .dll file using the X86 folder. Is this the right way round?

I want to be really sure because I dont want to do anything that screws up my system even more.

Thanks, Jim.

Added later - I used the X64 file because I have a 64 bit version of X7 (assuming that they were the wrong way round in your message). It works fine now if I rename the .mp4 file to .mov (but not if I leave it at .mp4). Reads in, edits, etc.

Many thanks indeed for your help - I am a happy man now!

Jim.
