Inserting Additional Photos

Post by dheffer »

How do I insert an additional picture into a project and have all of the pictures following it move down the timeline to make room.

I know how to insert a picture in place of an existing picture but I want to make a new or additional spot on the timeline for a picture and it will not move the remaining pics for me.

I have to manually select all pictures to the right of where I want to do the insertion and move them to the right to make room. Then if I have other pictures in the over tracks then I have to do the same with them to make all line up properly again.

There must be a way. It would sure save me a lot of time.

Thanks

It sounds as though you have your pictures in the overlay track - do you have anything in the top track ? - The top track moves right when you insert additional material but the overlay tracks do not move when you insert additional items into them.

The normal way of editing would be to put all the main material in the top track and enable "Ripple Editing" - look for the padlocks down the left edge of the timeline - they lock the tracks together - then when you add items in the top line every thing automatically moves right to allow for it - unfortunately that does not happen adding items to overlay tracks.

If you need to move items in the overlay track did you now you can click on the first item - then 'shift+click' on the last to select them all at once (standard Windows multi-select) - then slide all together.

I made the slide show using FastFlix and then I am editing in VideoStudio. FastFlix put in the top row boxes which are black with a 'FX' in them. Are they important and can I erase them so I can put the pictures in the top row?

That is just because you did not put enough images in while still in fastflick - if you now delete them you will upset the whole project and the effects applied in the fastflick template and will change the whole concept of the slide show.

you can add more photos very easily - simply drag the photo you want to insert down ontop of one of those black boxes WHILE HOLDING DOWN THE 'Ctrl' key - when you are over the black box release left mouse and ctrl at the same time and the image will replace the black block exactly.

Thank you for this advice. It worked. This was not very clear in the instructions. What exactly are those black boxes for with the 'FX' in them if they can be replaced?

Place holders - holding a place for your photos but with the gimmicky effects already applied - in some of the templates they are numbered.

Personally I never use the fastflick bit - I prefer to do every thing in the full VideoStudio editor where I can control every thing and apply the effects that I like.
