I have been using Nikon Capture for the last 8 years, and Nikon has announced that Capture NX2 is now abandonware to be replaced by Capture NX-D. CNXD appears to be a slightly better processor than View NX2. But it's too soon to tell for sure what CNXD's capabilities will be.
One thing for sure, CNXD will not have the U Point technology of Nik software. I have grown to love U Point, and am saddened that it will be going away.
I have been using PSP X4 occasionally to do things that CNX2 can't do, like full-on cloning. I also have used it to print, since it is easier to print from PSP than CNX2.
Now I've upgraded to PSP X6, and will be taking some time to learn to do things in PSP that will give me the same results that I've been getting from CNX2. Anybody out there in the same boat?
BTW, I'm an amateur photographer using a Nikon D90, and hoping to upgrade to a D7100 soon. 99.9% of the time I shoot in raw format.

I think its something about boats. I really stay out of them. Hate water any deeper than my bathtub.

Re: Nikon Capture NX2 - End of Life
If you shoot mostly raw format then you should look into ASP.

Or other programs which (IMHO) do a much better job of working with RAW.df wrote:If you shoot mostly raw format then you should look into ASP.
Adverts for Corel products when you close PSP don't bother me.

Re: Nikon Capture NX2 - End of Life
I think the OP is looking for comments re NX-D v ASP.
I started way back with Bibble. Been with ASP up until recently when Nikon offered NX-D beta for testing. Being curious I tried NX-D. And liked it. Sure it's not an ASP. Less tools and toys. BUT the end results out of NX-D are better for what I'm looking for. ALL I need is a converter that will give me a well balanced and clean file. I can do everything I then need to do in PSPx6. Including noise removal with DeNoise.
ASP offers more tools. A great data base for lens correction. Plugins. Layers. etc. But the critical point for me is that white balance is a mess in ASP. I haven't the time to 'fiddle' with every file to get while balance correct.
NX-D is simple. It converts NEFs just as Nikon intended them to be converted. White balance 'presets' are very close to what I expect. It's 'almost' as fast as ASP. Noise reduction is too aggressive for my liking. Some of the other tools are a bite crude. But as I said, PSPx6 does all my hard work.
If you are shooting Raw with a Nikon don't dismiss NX-D.
Now I have tried ASP2. Still not happy with white balance. If Corel fixes the white balance issues I will more thank likely jump back to ASP. But the longer that takes, if at all, the more comfortable I get with NX-D and the less likely I am to come back.
regards
