New Version + New Cameras - Old problem

Post by phedders »

So a new version out! Yes! At LAST!

So of course it'll support the latest cameras - you know those released up until a few weeks ago at least. Especially those generating a lot of interest!

Sony® A33, A35, A55, A55V, A57, A65, A77, A100, A200, A230, A290, A300, A330, A380, A390, A350, A450, A500, A550, A560, A580, A700, A850, A900, DSC-R1, DSC-RX100, NEX-3, NEX-3N, NEX-5, NEX-5N, NEX-5R, NEX-6, NEX-7, NEX-C3, NEX-F3, SLT-A37, SLT-A58, SLT-A99

No A7r, A7s, A3000, A5000, A6000

The RAW format for these are all virtually the same. The only thing they need to tweek is the color, demosaicing and noise profiles. Amature part time devs can do it... but not these professional developers. And there isnt a way even for users to add such AFAICK.

Ok so the 7s is only in the hands of selected users still, but I'm sure Corel _Should_ have the kind of relationship with the manufacturers where they are keen to give Corel info and sample cameras to get raw support out at lauch.

So my main camera is not supported by this _new_ version, but is supported nicely by Darktable which is developed by a bunch of guys in their spare time. That's telling.

Too little, too late, the ship has sailed.

It looks as though you have joined these forums for one reason only - to complain about about Aftershot pro - since you say "the ship has sailed" I presume that means you have no intention of buying Aftershot pro V2 - so do you really need to be a member of these forums ? or do you really love Aftershot pro and can't live without it .

So what do you like about Aftershot - what keeps bringing you back to it - what makes you so keen to use it - must have some good points.

You're right. Every few weeks I check to see if at last there is support for newer cameras and bug fixes for Bib^h^h^HASP.

Why do I keep coming back?

1) I run linux everywhere. Bibble was the only decent raw/workflow tool for linux2, and it still does support Linux when LR doesnt.
2) Bibble happenned to be really good.
3) Bibble had a quirky but really quick UI. Yea so they did their best to break that in ASP.
4) I got used to that UI... (old habbits... and lets face it, Corel depend on us 'stick'ing despite their malais)
5) I got lots of data in Bibble databases - I'm trying to extract it and re-import whats useful and relevant to Darktable for historical stuff, but that takes time (I'm short of it) and effort
6) I _do_ keep hoping that Bibble 7 would be really really good again...

IF ASP2 had been an upGRADE
and
IF ASP2 had support for my Camera (sigh)
and
IF ASP2 had a decent discount for loyal customers

I would even now have bought it, and probably used it alongside darktable.

I rejoined precisely because I want to join the voices telling Greg that he has to act _really_ quickly, because the ship is sailing and if he doesn't, there wony be many customers left to interract with.

And I think that woud be a shame. I think its too late for me now. No support for the ILCE6000 and darktable working great... I'm learning new keyboard short cuts and muscle memories... I'm happy elsewhere now.

very good point.
I loved to use ASP under Linux, untill i notice the white balance bug. I could somehow live with it by using preset white balance.
Now i hav a new camera, ILCE6000, and ASP 2 do not support it. I'm sure that corel will support the camera, but when? Soon? This year? Next version? You know what i mean.

I now start to manage and process my raw files with darktable. And i now start to convert ASP database to darktable.
Darktable improve rapidly. So why should one switch back to ASP.
