Canvas Size bug

Post by DaveG74 »

I'm trying to do a Canvas Size adjustment on an image. However, when I specify new figures in the Width and Height fields, all of the Placement fields populate accordingly except for the Left field.

For example, I have an image sized 300 x 300. I'm trying to take 50 pixels off both height and width, but observe the figures in the image.

I also tried checking "Lock Aspect Ratio" but it doesn't even out the numbers.

Has anyone else had a problem with this?
I guess I'll just have to do a workaround: Select All, Contract Selection and crop that way.

If I was trying to make the canvas from 300 square to 250 square I would use Image > Resize.
If I was trying to remove excess around edges to get to 250 square you could use the crop tool, or Selection select a square , invert and delete key , selections none

I'm glad to know the alternatives to the Canvas Size tool.

Back on topic -- what is the issue with the Canvas Size tool? I don't remember it behaving this way in previous versions of PSP.
Is anyone aware of as to why?

I'm unable to duplicate this issue. Which version of PSP are you using? If it's X6 are you using the 32-bit or 64-bit version or does it happen in both?

Is there a difference between a background layer and a raster layer? Does the image have any additional layers?

What happens when you click on the Centre button under Placement?

What's odd is that none of your Placement buttons appear to be selected. Perhaps PSP is remembering a previous setting from another image. Try selecting your placement and see what happens.

I confirmed that the bug is consistent between the 32 and 64-bit versions. Then I selected the Center Placement button and the numbers evened themselves out. I'm guessing that in my previous product -- PSP X1 -- this button was already selected. Every Canvas Size operation seemed to number up correctly.

I will leave this button engaged and let you know if something goes awry.
I can't help but wonder: with no Placement selected, where the heck does it get those numbers from?

Anyhoo. Thanks for the solutions! :)

It looks like it uses the original canvas size to calculate the left offset. So if it was 400 pixels wide, it would fill in the left offset box with -399 and so on.

I'm using PaintShop Pro X6. I've had it for almost a year and never had this problem until recently. When I use the resize canvas tool, my picture disappears and I'm left with a blank canvas.
