DVD slide show is cropped

Post by cullenrj »

We have put together a nice slide show, and it runs fine from within Picture Show 3.

When we burn the show on a DVD, and show it on a TV, the top of the pictures are cut off. I read something on one of the help screens about the aspect ratios being different on the computer screen and the TV.

Is there some way to stop this cropping? A lot of heads are being cut off.

Thanks for any help.

This is just normal. PictureShow simply applies the same cropping principle that is also being done when you have your pictures printed or developed on photo developing centers.

It should crop only a little portion from the borders and not a noticeable portion already. You'll have to give allowance for this. Don't take pictures with the heads already at the top border of the picture. Otherwise there really is a chance that it'll get clipped off.

Since you're using PictureShow 3, try using the "decorate" function. There you'll see the outline on what part of the picture will be clipped off.

Thanks for the response. I consider it unacceptable to have to "guess" what is going to be cut off and crop accordingly. Some pictures cannot be cropped so that essential information is not lost. I don't want to have to maintain two versions of my photos, one cropped the way I want, and one cropped to suit PictureShow.

I have done some additional research and found that a product called MAGIX PhotoStory does what PictureShow does, plus it has a feature to adjust for the cropping that takes place when the pictures are formatted for TV. I tried it out and it seems to work fine.

Thanks for you input.

You're welcome cullenrj... You don't have to guess though... you can go to "Decorate" (or double click on a particular picture/slide at the right panel when you're in the first step) and it should have an outline of the portion that will be cropped so you can adjust accordingly. To adjust how much of the image you want cropped or if you don't want it to be cropped at all, adjust the values for the Show title-safe area. You can do this from the Output Settings of the Preferences menu (press F6 for the shortcut key). Reduce the value to 1% to remove the cropped surface.
