Pictures Showing Up Black in Corel VideoStudio Pro X6

My 13 year old son has spent hours on a school project he's creating in Corel VideoStudio. Tonight all the images in his timeline are black, even though the images were in it earlier. Now you see the image name and a black box where each image should be. I'm not familiar with this program at all and the project is due in one day. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try This

Click on "Settings >> Preferences" when the dialogue window opens about 1/3 of the way down is a drop down against "clip display mode" - change that to "Thumbnail only" - click OK in the dialogue window and your problem should be solved.

In addition to Brian's advice your son may have changed the timeline display from Story-Board to Timeline View, that may explain why they used to show .

Top left of the timelines are two icons (left of undo) Story-Board View and Timeline View

I tried both of these, but it didn't make a difference. And when you play the video, there are no images displayed. It's a black screen. Only the text he's written, and a video clip he inserted show up.

Has he moved any files involved in this project at all on the hard drive - were they on an external drive - did you get any error messages at all at one of the programme start ups.

please right click on one of the black images in the timeline and choose 'properties' from the pop up - please copy that properties box and attach the image to one of your posts.

Can you confirm that the image clips on the timeline show as all black, or do they show as half black half white.?
A little strange to have just black.

If you select an image on the timeline do you get any errors.
If you get a request to “re-link” then the images on the hard drive have either been moved or renamed?
Browse the hard drive to find the image.

If you use an image Jpeg from the library does that display ok.

When I right click the image and click properties I get an error message saying it's unable to load library.

The images are all black. I've attached a screenshot. I noticed when I tried to add an image to the timeline that he had already used I get an error message saying file format mismatch

Are you able to use any images in a new project or are you having the same problems with other projects.

Has your son updated or re-installed the pc’s graphics driver.

I tried to load it, but it said I couldn't do it as a VSP

I have sent you an e-mail, you should be able to send the VSP to me.

Do you know if anything has changed on the pc, Graphics drivers have been known to upset jpegs.

It is also strange to get the Unable to Load Library error.

Maybe you should reset the library although I don’t know why that should affect the timeline content.
First export the library as a backup then Reset
However if the library is at fault the program may not allow you to re-import the library.

Settings – Library Manager – Reset Library will revert the library to its default state.

I reset it, but nothing changed. Do I need to import it then.

The sample images don't work either. When you click on them, they say they don't exist. I don't think anything has been updated. He did say that the computer shut down at one point because he didn't plug it in on time. He thought the problem happened some time after this.

Thanks for the VSP, nothing unusual there given that I cannot view the actual image.

I had a problem in running X5 on a Lenovo laptop

The problem was related to the graphics driver, a little odd as the pc was new.
Some of the symptoms are shown here:-

Library images ----The error “doesn't exist” also shows the files location but not the correct one, it referred to a different VS version.

I would urge you to check your Graphics drivers version.

I found updates via Windows Optional Updates, however you may have to visit the PC’s manufacturers web site.

I suspect the laptop turning off corrupted the file.
Can you open a new project and work in that?
