x7 ultimate INCOMPLETE INSTALL
I am posting this as a TIP for anyone who is missing the X7 templates for projects, titles and menu gallery [smartscene, thumbnail, text]]
There USED TO be a web page to download templates for projects, text and menu's. I was worried that COREL was charging for these now?
[sorry but I'm still a bit ticked off that they USED TO provide a free upgrade if you purchased the 12-month premium support ... and now you have to pay about the same $$ for the upgrade AND for the premium support. Me thinks they-be a bit too money-hungry]
HERE IS THE TIP:
I just found and ran C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Ultimate X7 Setup Files\Setup\RunTime\ContentHD\setup.exe and NOW the menu gallery shows up.
QUESTION: Are there any other .EXE that I should run to get a full install?
Thanks, Jim

Re: x7 ultimate INCOMPLETE INSTALL
OK here's something VERY STRANGE
When I choose SHARE = DVD then ALL of the menu gallery shows up
When SHARE = SD-CARD then only the eight sample menus show up.
I still have an incomplete install.
Ideas appreciated ... thanks Jimbo213MO

Re: x7 ultimate INCOMPLETE INSTALL
You seem to be expecting an SD card to work exactly like a DVD - it does not - there are many things you cannot do with an SD card and clever menus is one of them - your installation is not incomplete, VideoStudio is only offering you those options that you can use with SD cards
This is not a fault in VideoStudio but is due to the fact that SD cards and SD card readers are just not designed to do fancy menu tricks.

Re: x7 ultimate INCOMPLETE INSTALL
Thanks Brian - but I'm disappointed to say the least that the SD-CARD option is quite limited. I'm going to make a VSx8 wish-list comment to improve that.
COMMENT: Here is what I'm doing for my HUGE project?
I've edited 10 hours of my mom's "life story" into a 3 hour project that is about 30gb size and has 8 chapters.
Since DVDs only have a "shelf life" of 10 years, I've been looking for a way to create a DVD "structure" and save it to a Thumb-Drive or an SD-Card
The thumb drive would have a "Mom folder", a VIDEO_TS sub-folder, containing the typical .BUP, .IFO and many .VOB files.
As I type this, I just started the OUTPUT = DVD and unchecked create to disc.
I checked Create DVD folders and Create disc image
WARNING MESSAGE: Something about the (30gb) project will not fit on a DVD, press YES to try to make it fit
Desired: Family Members for the next 10 generations could view Mom's life history interviews in two ways:
- Most HDTVs have a USB input port that would play the DVD folders
- There are programs that will create phantom drives and mount the .ISO disc image file to view on a PC
I'm guessing with my PC the rendering will take HOURS - so I'll post a reply on how this worked.
Currently the "progress" bar appears to be trying to fit it all onto a DVD 8.5G size which WON'T work.
QUESTION: What rendering format do you recommend for my project? given that I do NOT want to use actual DVDs for the output which is supposed to last for hundreds of years as a genealogical history of my mother. My fall-back would be to create one DVD FOLDER per chapter and save them the thumb-drive.

Re: x7 ultimate INCOMPLETE INSTALL
I don't know exactly what you are using to read the SD card - are you expecting to use in only on computers - or are you wanting to play it to a TV from say a DVD player with SD slot.
If the former then I would create a full DVD menu structure and save a disc image file (.iso) to the SD card and then put a disc image player - such as the free VLC player on the laptop.
To play from an SD card to my TV from the DVD player I simply make each chapter as an individual file to the SD card then it is my DVD player that presents these files on screen as a menu.
what format you use for the latter depends entirely on the capability of the device playing the SD card and your TV

Hi Brian and thanks in advance for your reply.I would create a full DVD menu structure and save a disc image file (.iso)
Attached is a .JPG screen shot at 19% progress of what I'm doing ... I think it is just about what you suggested.
Notice at the bottom it appears that VSx7 is trying to compress the 30gb project into 8.5G
Am I reading this wrong?
It has been cranking for 4+ hours and is only at 19% .... so I'll post file-size, resolution, etc, when the progress is finished.
Best regards, Jim

Re: x7 ultimate INCOMPLETE INSTALL
You have told Videostudio you want to burn a dual disc so yes it is reducing the file size to fit into 8.5 Gb

Re: x7 ultimate INCOMPLETE INSTALL
You are worrying to much about the future. I am sure that in one or two generations none of the "formats" available today will be viewable by future devices. Just think what has happened to some of the devices/media that were around 10-20 years ago and have already disappeared. Floppy disks, etc....? Most likely every 10 years (or even sooner), someone will have to transfer the videos to a new format.jaholstein wrote:Thanks Brian - but I'm disappointed to say the least that the SD-CARD option is quite limited. @CANUCK
Thanks - and I agree - so I'm going to create eight (8) DVD quality chapters [limited by the main-interview DV-Tape resolution] and storing to a digital HD.
I'll leave it up to my son & nephew to upgrade to "current" technology when [or before] THEY turn 65 [in 30 years].
Then they can pass it on to their grandchildren to maintain ...
Oh ... and you can find the results of the rendering here http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 45#p288219
Respectfully - Jim
MODERATOR - you can lock / close this thread. I am quite satisfied with the replies. This is a GREAT forum.

You are a life saver!! After tons of research I could not figure out why I was missing so many templates nor how to restore them. I did what you said and ta-dah! They are all there. Thank you soooo much!!!
