.MOV files

Post by Metragnome »

Hi there, new to forum and have a problem I hope someone can help out with.

Was running VS Pro X4 and was trying to create a video of a recent holiday....after doing so I noticed that the video quality had deteriorated quite significantly from the original shot footage.

Decided to then purchase VS Ultimate X7 so herein lies the problem....

My video was shot in full HD in .MOV form.... it plays just fine when I play each clip as is in original form. But when I import the files then click play within VS (no editing whatsoever), the movie play is very jerky/stuttery.

I have a Dell XPS machine Intel Core i7-2600 8GB RAM and AMD Radeon HD6700 video card.

Any help is very much appreciated.

Hi

Welcome to the forums

AVCHD video files can be quite demanding on the pc, playback in the timelines can be a little slow / jerky.
Video Studio uses Smart Proxy files, these are created when first inserting the clips to the timeline. (provided Enable Smart Proxy has been selected) , view the settings menu.
The files do take a while to create, again view Settings Proxy Manager—File and Queue manager.
A small double icon can be seen on the clip when using proxy files

Proxy Files should improve playback.

MOV is just a container, what is the actual file type? Right click and choose properties of a file on the VS timeline.

Hi
I recently was asked to put a friend's filmed footage of her grandsons doing motoX and her daughter doing mounted games onto dvd. The files were .mov. When I loaded them into Corel ProX4 the footage would not play smoothly and when rendered to mpeg 2 still did not play smoothly. I went ahead and burned it to disc only to discover it still played jerkily and was not smooth at all. Tried various settings and nothing seemed to solve the problem. Strangely tho the footage played perfectly when using Windows Media Player. I also have the Studio 15 version of Pinnacle on my machine so loaded the files into that to see if there was any improvement. They all played perfectly and were subsequently rendered to mpeg 2 and burned to disc which also played perfectly. I can only think it is something to do with Corel rather than my machine which is a Novatech laptop Core i7 2760 16gb ram Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit with a NVidia graphics card.

It could also have something to do with the version of Quicktime you have on your computer. For some people, the latest version works well, but for others for some inexplicable (by us, anyway) reason, they have to install an older version -- 7.5.5 IIRC which often corrects the problems.
