SP2 and Runtime Library Error

Post by lestertr »

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Corel PSP X6 3 times now and even reset my laptop once due to a MS Visual C++ Runtime Library error that just suddenly started coming up for me.

I have had PSP X6 on this laptop since February 7 when I purchased the laptop.

Due to having to get familiar with PSP X6 I didn't even look for updates until a few days ago. That is when I started getting the error message however it wasn't until all my uninstalls and reset that I realized that PSP X6 worked just fine until I ran the SP 2 update.

Once the SP2 is installed the program will work for a few hours then it just stops. I try to open the program and get the error. I can't access it at all.

Since my last uninstall and the reset I have not downloaded the SP2 and it's working just fine.

Can anyone explain why I'm getting this and is the SP2 update really necessary.

I have Windows 8.1 on my laptop and I have downloaded all updates for this as well.

Installing and uninstalling so many times may have caused certain files to become corrupt.
Download the CleanTool from about and use that to uninstall PSPX6. I would also advise a PC clean, reboot and start over. Don't install any updates until you are requested to do so with a pop-up from Corel when closing PSPX6. See how that goes.

Done and so far it is running great but I keep declining the SP 2 update because of the problems. I did notice going to the web site instead of just going by the pop up box that there is a SP 1. Will that install automatically or do I need to install that FIRST. I have never had so much trouble with PSP :(

Hi Traci L

Service packs have to be installed in order.

If the program is prompting you to install SP2 then I would think that SP1 is already installed.
Maybe Corel have included SP1 by updating the program file, I know they did that with Video Studio X5.

Check your version number, which should update as you install service packs, somebody from the PSP forum may be able to confirm what version you are using, but I think with SP1.
Sorry I don’t have PSP X6 to confirm version numbers.

If you try to install SP1 and receive an error referring to “ cannot identify version number” (something like that) then its Corel's way of saying the service pack is already installed. Maybe they need to update the wording of the error messages?

Hope that helps

But first ask yourself if you really need what the Service packs provide. SP1 was supposed to fix aproblem when using Image Extractor as well as some stuff with facebook and extra Raw conversions and increased stability . If none of these are important or you can work around then you may not need it.
Because ... SP1 also broke the image zoom function zooming in an out with the scroll wheel and maybe something to do with the rulers. This was then corrected by a Hot fix.

Then came SP2 with more Raw conversion fixes and other bits and pieces,
I still have the basic and have not installed any of the Service Packs. I use earlier versions for those features that are broken.
Systems available Win7, Win 8.1,Win 10 Version 1607 Build 14393.2007 & version 20H2 Build 19042.867
