Hi, I'm Dutch and a newbe on this board and I have a question. I hope someone can help me solve my problem. I'll try to explain (English is not my native language)
Until April 2014 I used PSP9 on my XP computer. I had programmed that every picture (like in emails or on my pc) would open in PSP9 and that always worked fine. Now I have a computer with Windows 7/Office7. While the intallation of PSP9 was no problem (it's installed in C/Program Files (x86)), I can't get the 'open with' PSP9 working.
I've set the compatibility to Windows XP (service pack 3) I've also set that all pictures should open in PSP9.
However, when I want to open a picture from my email, or from the explorer on my pc, it does open PSP9, but it won't open/show the picture and I get a message saying that something went wrong when sending to the program. (I have a Dutch version of Windows7).
When I open the picture in Windows Photo Viewer, it opens fine. So why won't pictures open in PSP9 I wonder. Am I missing something?
Open with PSP9 doesn't work in Windows7

Re: Open with PSP9 doesn't work in Windows7
Can you do this and tell us your results.
1. In Windows 7 make a new folder on your desktop.
2. Copy some image files to that folder eg a file from another folder, a file from an email.
3. Open PSP9 using the desktop icon and wait til it completes opening.
4. Make a new raster document in PSP9 (File > New - set to 600 x 400 pixels)
5. File > Save As and save it to that new folder you made in 1.
6. Now open that folder It should be reduced to make it occupy a small part of the screen with PSP 9 behind it.
7. Drag that new image over into the workspace of PSP9 and drop - Does that open and show properly (this tests if an image made by the current program can be used)
8. Drag the other images email, other image into the workspace. Do those images show.
If you cannot see the image in 7 (one just made by the program) or 8 then you may have to reset or reinstall PSP9.
If you cannot see the images in 8 but can see the one from 7 then you may need to reset your PSP or something may be wrong with your jpgs.
Open with PSP9 involves right clicking on your image file doing Open With and in the new window at the bottom right Browse to the Jasc Software Inc folder in Program Files (86) and selecting Paint Shop Pro 9.exe to open.
You should then have Open With and clicking the arrow to the right should give you other programs as well as Paint Shop Pro 9. This works with PSP8 which functions correctly on Windows 7 Home Premium.

Re: Open with PSP9 doesn't work in Windows7
I'm not sure I understand the problem but have you tried this:
- go to windows start and select control panel
- select programs
- under the heading "Default Programs" select "Make a file type always open in a specific program"
- In the list of file types go to the type you want such as .jpg, select and click on "change program". You should be able to find PSP X9 in available programs or go to the .exe file.

Re: Open with PSP9 doesn't work in Windows7 - SOLVED!
Hi Hartpaul,
I've done what you suggested and at first the pics wouldn't show when I dragged them from the new made map to PSP9, so I thought there must be something wrong in PSP9 and I went to propterties again and clicked all the tabs again and clicked on all the buttons to see if I had missed something. Then I discovered that the 'administrator' did not have all the authorities possible, so I fixed that and now it's working fine.
Thank you so much, because by and through your explanation I learned something new and it brought me to the final solution. Never thought of checking the administrator rights in PSP9.

Re: Open with PSP9 doesn't work in Windows7
Mark, thanks, but the problem has been solved.
I forgot to tell in my previous reply that the comptablility mode should be set to Windows 7 and not to Windows XP (service pack 3) as I had done. That solved the first problem when the dragged pics still weren't showing in PSP x9. But I still couldn't open a pic from my email and that made me look further and then I found that the administrator lacked some vital rights.
