PSP X4: How Do I Create a Rectangle with Yellow Sides?

Post by jdanniel »

Hello I am using PSP X4.

I'm not sure how to describe what I want, so please bear with me. I do not work with graphics much. I'm sure this is simple to do, but I don't know how yet.

I have an image that I want to put a rectangle in. I want the rectangle to have a colored border, but have no color filled into it.

In other words, the rectangle's four sides should be yellow, for example, and the interior of the rectangle should show the image, not yellow. I hope I explained that all right.

What's the procedure for doing that?

Basically, I just want to highlight part of an image by having a rectangle around it. I know how to create a yellow arrow that points to that section of the image, but I want to highlight it and draw attention to it with a "hollow" rectangle as well.

Thank you! J. Danniel

You will use the rectangle tool and the materials palette for this.

Materials Pallete - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9GEAvbcWi4
Preset Rectangle tool - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZQ7Ud5ykAY

First select the Rectangle tool as shown in the video.

What you want to do, is on the materials pallete, turn off the background color. In the materials palette you have two big color blocks, the foreground color, and the background color. Under each block is a row of three buttons. Type, Texture, Transparency. Click the last button on that row to turn off the background color.

Make sure the stroke size is big enough that you can see it on the tool options palette. And set the foreground color to whatever color you want the stroke, or outline, to be.

Thank you for the reply.

Sure enough, about five minutes after I posted the question, I figured out how to do it. But I do appreciate the response. Thank you again.
