Hi all,
Newbie here using VS X7.
My trimmed wmv files are larger than the original after saving using Save Trimmed Video.
For example, after trimming 8 minutes from a 73 minute video then clicking on Save Trimmed Video, the saved file is 42MB larger than the 73 minute file.
Any help?

Re: Trimmed wmv files are larger than original
There are hundreds of wmv codecs, so some will make smaller, some the same sort of size and some larger.
Are you exporting to the same format as the first file on timeline?

I'm just clicking on Save Trimmed Video, how do I save to the same format as the first file on timeline?

Re: Trimmed wmv files are larger than original
Hi
As far as I know Saved Trimmed Video should use the original video files properties.
However that assumes that Video Studio can read and edit the original, as Graham says there are hundreds of formats.
From the timeline right click the original clip, choose properties, do the same for the new video file, What are the properties, are the properties the same.

Re: Trimmed wmv files are larger than original
There are some differences in the properties.
The data rate is 3090 in the original clip and 3337 in the new video.
Video is: Windows Media Video V7 in the original clip and Windows Media Video 9 in the new video.
Everything else is exactly the same.
Any suggestions?

Re: Trimmed wmv files are larger than original
Hi
There is little you can do about the difference in sizes. You could use maybe Windows Media Encoder to create your own template, whether you can get that to show in X7 is another matter.
The first WMV developed was Version 7, that was a long time ago.
Video Studio uses Version 8 and 9, in fact I have never seen V7 with any version of Video Studio. The quality using 8 or 9 will be better than 7 as the file size reflects.
I found some info doing a google search for wmv V7
