All drivers/codecs updated
Hello All.
I just downloaded the program yesterday, an upgrade from VS 5. Every time I try to insert a video into the timeline, or capture a video it crashes and closes. The videos are simple MPEG4 and MOV. Can someone please tell me how to fix this?

I'm afraid there is no such thing as a simple mpeg4 or mov, as there are literally hundreds of versions.
Do they work fine in X5?
If so, right click on them in the timeline and tell us the properties.
What are you trying to capture from?
If they all work fine in X5, it could be a bad download/install of X7.

Interesting as I have exactly the same problem but I received a CD today and installed it on my Lenovo E-32 64bit with win7 pro i7-4770 16gb 2tb K600 video card and yet when I tried to insert a video (MOV)....... crash. Then there is the problem of trying to report it since I did register the software where on earth do I report it??? So now that I have the software and it wont work, its like being all dressed up and nowhere to go. if there are so many version of MOV out there, you would think that Corel would have figured out how to detect which one it is.

MOV is not a file type, it is a wrapper that contains a file and there are well over 800 different ones.
You can use things like avicodec or gspot to tell you the 4ccc code of the codec and then you can google the maker of that codec, install it and see if it will then work with VS.
Unfortunately not all codecs will work within VS, which is the same with all editors. Though each editor will have a different set of files it can pull in, so sometimes it's a question of trial and error.
Other things can affect some file types not working, such as having codec packs installed. These can often tell programmes to sue the wrong codec for a file, causing crashes.

There is a simple if rather clumsy solution. I run mine through Windows Movie Maker and save. This produces a .wmv file which runs fine in VS X7. now I have never tried renaming the file ****.wmv (why not?) but that may work as well.
I normally work in AVCHD but the slo-mo option on my HC-V750 switches to MP4 to record. X7 does not like this for some reason and shuts down. The same file re-created in .wmv works fine.

I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

Hi www ggg
I had lots of problems running Video Studio on my wifes new Lenovo laptop.
To cut a long story the problem was the installed graphics driver.
Updating that cured the problems.
No idea why you purchase a new laptop that uses an old drivers.
Anyway I found an optional update via "windows updates" that related to the graphics card, installing that cured all my problems.
You can see some problems I was experiencing here.

The web page shows other problems when running Video Studio, I didn’t get as far as using Mov files.
By the way have you installed Quicktime, that used to be provided with the VS program but as far as I know is no longer provided so you have to install it.
Given that it’s a new laptop I would suspect QT is not installed

Thank you Trevor for the info, although I don't have a laptop. The E32 is a tower. I also have Sony Vegas Pro 13 and Avid Media Composer 8 and neither one of them have any issues. I don't have any issues with x6, but certainly having problems with x7.
