PSP x6 64bit copy/paste

Post by paulgo »

Hi guys. New to the forum but not new to Paintshop. After using the 32bit version for some time i decided to upgrade to the 64bit version. However, I'm finding it ungainly and slow compared to the 32bit, especially when cutting/copying and pasting within an image OR from one image to another. When dragging the cutout to its new destination, the image shudders and you can't see it until you're right where you need to be.Positioning the piece is also a nightmare as it will not sit where it's put. I have to right click and hope for the best, that it's in the right spot.

I'm using Windows 7 pro 64bit with 16Gb ram on an i5 CPU with gtx660 graphix

Has anyone else experienced this with the 64bit version?

Thanks guys!

What I did:
1. Loaded two images to the workspace (2000 x 1333 pixels)
2. used selection tool rectangle and selected an area about 500 x 300, then Edit > Copy
3. On the other image then did a right click Paste >Paste as New layer.
4. Then used the Move tool to move the image around within the area of that second image.

some jerkiness / splitting of image wih fast movements (delete and refresh image slow), but not (for me) objectionable. Using arrow keys to make slight adjustments and Control arrow keys to make larger adjustments , again no real problems.
No difference between X6 64 or 32 bit versions and same appearance in X4

Same Prob as paulgo.

Win 7 Pro 64bit
R9 270 latest drivers
X6 Trial 64bit (16.2.0.20)

Create a 640x360 image

Do whatever you want to with it

If you paste a new selection into the image and drag it around, if leaves ghosts of the selection randomly as you move it. If you zoom in / scroll the screen, the ghosts might disappear. When you get the image where you think you want it, CTRL D / right click and pray.

You can only tell where the selection is being placed via the marching ants, and if the ghosted selection is near where you're trying to place it... the ghost image is covering up the real image/background so gotta kinda just hope and pray.

Pasting in a new selection, selecting a square and moving it around, etc.... anything that involves moving a selection causes the problem.

I'll be uninstalling / re-installing with 32bit mode to see if it goes away. PSP 3, 4, 5, 7, nor X3 do it.

If I have to, I can create a screen capture video of it happening.

Did a reinstall of the trial. No custom plugins or anything like that loaded.

What I've done is load a 640x360 PNG, select an area, drag (move with mouse) it around a bit. Do the select / drag a few times. Copy / paste the selection and drag it around.

16.1.0.48 64bit - graphical corruption occurs, especially when moving the selection beyond the upper or left canvas area
16.1.0.48 32bit - graphical corruption occurs, especially when moving the selection beyond the upper or left canvas area

Help -> Check for updates -> It installs X6 SP2.

16.2.0.20 64bit - graphical corruption occurs, especially when moving the selection beyond the upper or left canvas area

Did some more fiddling with this to see how to make it happen since other folks have said they don't see it.

You need to be zoomed in enough to have scroll bars in the image canvas window.

Once you have scroll bars, the rendering bug concerning dragging the image around occurs.

If there are no scroll bars on the canvas, then you do not get the render corruption.

Is this an actual bug forum that Corel reads, or should I contact them in some other way ?

Every time you copy to clipboard is saves not only one copy but whole bunch of formats 6 or more. So it takes time...
I have only 32-bit Windows.

Have just tested the OP problem in X2 and it is also there as well. It is also present in Photoshop CS2 but not as bad as in PSP . I suspect the problem is a limitation of the graphics card and refresh rates and the communication between PSP and the graphics card.

X3 doesn't appear to do it for me. But it doesn't seem to really let you view outside the current drawing area when zoomed in ?

As far as communication stuff, I remember "back in the day" having to turn down graphics acceleration in display properties when running some apps. Dunno if Win7 has a similar slider or if it'd help ? I'll also fiddle with aero on/off.

It can be done without using CTRL-C/clipboard. Select a rectangle them move that selection around.

Edit to add

Looks like other people have complained and it's a known render bug to some degree or so.

I'll be fiddling with render settings to see if I can come up with any work around. Hate to hijack the thread though ._.

The immediate fix isn't a great one -- but disable tabbed documents.

Window Menu -> Tabbed Documents

edit for clarification: with Tabbed Documents turned off, the bug is completely gone. But the window for each image is now completely filled with the image. Scrolling around inside a zoomed in area doesn't let you go outside the bounds of the image like a tabbed document would. sadly, you now get the joy of a fully windows-display-manager decorated window frame - meaning the "theme" doesn't quite look as refined any more. BUT - the render/display bug IS GONE when used this way... which makes PSP usable again.

I recall seeing a hotfix / forum only patch relating to zoom / tabbed documents. I'll dig around a bit to see what I can come up with.
