Did Plug-ins Improve with Upgrade to VS 7 ?
Just curious to know if the issues people were having with some of the plug-ins in VS 6, like Roto Pen, Script, Mercalli etc., were cleared up with the upgrade to VS 7. I have been holding off on getting VS 7 until I heard more about the issues with the plug-ins. I am an avid VS user since the beginning of time it seems and love the software for its ease of use and for the incredible job it does in creating great videos for novices and beyond. Has anyone seen an improvement in their usage with the upgrade? I plan to upgrade no matter what, but am just curious if those issues got better, worse or stayed the same. Thanks for any replies. Be well.

Re: Did Plug-ins Improve with Upgrade to VS 7 ?
I never had any problems with those plug-ins in X6, and with the ones I most use (Mercalli, Rotopen and Vitascene -- I've never used Script), I also have no problems in X7...

Re: Did Plug-ins Improve with Upgrade to VS 7 ?
Those plug-in problems with Win 8 were never resolved by Corel in CVS X6. The only plug-in which kept functionning was Mercalli. But all plug-ins are working fine now with version X7. Ken never experienced this issue because he's sticking to Win 7

Re: Did Plug-ins Improve with Upgrade to VS 7 ?
No -- sorry. While my Profile shows my main editing computer, which does indeed run Win 7 x64, I also have X6 and X7 on an i3 running Windows 8.1 Pro x64, and never experienced any problems on that either. But then again, I never had Win 8 as I installed 8.1 first off on a virgin hard disk. Glad, though, that you confirm that the plug-ins work fine in X7...

Re: Did Plug-ins Improve with Upgrade to VS 7 ?
Well, Ken you are Lucky, because I still have both CVS X6 and X7 with Win 8.1 on my computer and while everyting is OK Under CVSX7, this is the error message which is appearing when trying for instance Rotopen Under CVS X6 :

Re: Did Plug-ins Improve with Upgrade to VS 7 ?
Thanks to all posters and the message that Jan posted is the EXACT message I get with VS6 on Windows 8 and now 8.1. That was the reason for my inquiry to see if the issues still existed or were cleared up with VS7 Ultimate. I will get the upgrade and keep my fingers crossed that the issues with the plug-ins remain with VS6. Thanks again for all replies. They are appreciated!
Be well.

Hi Guys
It would appear the message posted by Jan seems to point to a 32 bit install not 64 bit
Have you tried resetting the program to its installed defaults by re-naming the folder 17.0 to 17.0copy
A new folder will be created when starting the program.
For 64 bit X7
C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro (x64)\17.0
For 32 bit X6
C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro\16.0
These locations are for W7 I assume a similar location for W8

Re: Did Plug-ins Improve with Upgrade to VS 7 ?
I'm finding your links a little confusing Trevor - for a start I don't see an App Data folder on any of my machines
On Win 7 32 bit - for the 16.0 folder I see --- C:\Users\Brian\Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\16.0
and for the 17.0 I see - - - C:\Users\Brian\Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\17.0
And on Win 8.1 64bit - I see - - - C:\Users\Brian\Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\17.0
Should I be seeing additional 16.0 or 17.0 folders in something called App Data - am I missing out on something should I have two of each ?

Re: Did Plug-ins Improve with Upgrade to VS 7 ?
OK once again I have learnt something - there are TWO 17.0 folders on my machines - in the past when being told to delete the 17.0 folder I have always done the one in Documents - I didn't even know there was another in a hidden App Data folder - could explain why the process has not always worked.
That one in App Data seems to have a great deal of folders and files in it - I presume it's OK to delete that lot
OK I've changed my folder settings so that I now see the App Data folder - but by default it is hidden and we obviously need to remember to tell users to make that one visible when talking of a 17.0 folder - and that it is in a folder called 'Ulead Systems' - many new users would never think of looking there.
Anyrate on Win 8.1 it is at - - C:\Users\Brian\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro (x64)\17.0

Re: Did Plug-ins Improve with Upgrade to VS 7 ?
Hi Brian
Sorry I should have mentioned the folders may be hidden by the operating system.
If you re-name the 17.0 folder to “17.0 old” then you can always revert back by re-naming again.
I usually re-name then cleanup afterwards
With the introduction of 64 bit there does seem to be some extra X7 references in the 32 bit program files, not sure why that should be.
The folders to restore / reset the program to the defaults will affect the library so maybe worth doing a backup.
Corel have documented the procedure for quite a while, you can find details regarding X6 here
How to manually reset Corel® VideoStudio Pro X6 to Default Settings
Anyway, I have had to use that procedure sometimes after installing the prodad bonus stuff, I have had some problems not population the library, resetting seems to cure that.

Re: Did Plug-ins Improve with Upgrade to VS 7 ?
To make a long story short : Yes I have tried every trick possible to make those plug-ins work in CVS X6 with Win 8(.1). I have allways got the same error message. Only Mercalli plug-in (video stabilization) has always been working with both CVS versions and Win 7 or 8 (.1).
This was discussed at length, some time ago, in thread : http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 88&start=0. Corel never resolved this problem in CVS X6, for instance by issuing a second service pack. But they managed nevertheless to make the plug-ins work in CVS X7. Strange isn't it?
