VSP X5 Project Rendered Accidentally in .MPEG....
In applying an Audio Filter to a video clip, my whole 27-minute VSP X5 .AVI Project got rendered to .MPEG format--and I followed Corel Board instructions to the letter, mind you...
I tried to Import the .MPEG-rendered footage into VSP X5, but the program doesn't recognize the footage as importable...
Is there ANY way to Import this footage into VSP X5? I'm talking about MONTHS OF WORK buggered by that procedure!

Hi DayO,
Are you saying that you no longer have the original project in the timeline, What exactly were you doing at the time, were you in "Share" and trying to add some audio.
If you no longer have the original project, you could try Format Factory (free) and convert the MPEG format file back to AVI

Re: VSP X5 Project Rendered Accidentally in .MPEG....
And what happens when you go to File > Open Project > and navigate to where your project file was? Or if it is still listed in that File drop-down menu, what happens when you select it?

Re: VSP X5 Project Rendered Accidentally in .MPEG....
The now-.MPEG version of the Project doesn't show up at all in the VSP Open Projects listings...
The original VSP Project is listed in Open Projects, but is only a few .kbs in length.
I wasn't trying to add any audio to the original Project, just trying to amplify the audio in a clip with Audio Filters.

Re: VSP X5 Project Rendered Accidentally in .MPEG....
MPEG files do not go to your My projects folder - they go to whatever is specified as the working folder.
.vsp files ARE only a few kilobytes - they are the project file which is just a little text file telling VideoStudio how to put your video together.
When you render a project to any thing be it MPEG or AVI or mov - NOTHING happens to your original .avi project - it is not touched or changed in any way - rendering a project does NOT damage your project.
If you have been working on this project for a while then I guess you must have 'saved' at various times so if the mpeg is not what you wanted then delete it and in VideoStudio open the ,vsp file and it will re-compile your project in normal editing mode.
If you were following some sort of tutorial when you created the mpeg then all you need to do now is in VideoStudio go to "File >> open project" and browse to your .vsp and open it - and unless you did something very strange or incorrect your project will re-open as .avi for editing.

Re: VSP X5 Project Rendered Accidentally in .MPEG....
What does "disappeared" mean? Are they no longer on your computer system or what? Do they simply not appear in the storyline or timeline when you open the project? Do you get any error messages? If they no longer appear in the timeline when you open the project thenyou removed them from your project, either deliberately or "accidentally". If you somehow deleted or moved the video clips on your system then VideoStudio would give you a "relink" message.DayO wrote:When I open the original .vps Project now in Open Project, only the first three video clip are extant. When I open the Project, only the first three clips of the original .vsp Project appear on the Timeline. There is no Error message.
There is no Relink message.
That is what happens. And the original unedited videoclips are still on my PC. But the previous full-length .vsp version is nowhere on my system!
Meantime, should I go ahead and try to convert the .MPEG version to .AVI, what would be the best
Output settings with the conversion? (I am using Movavi Video Converter, BTW)

Re: VSP X5 Project Rendered Accidentally in .MPEG....
This is the statement we are all struggling with, if you were adding an audio filter then you had to be in the timeline, Video Studio does not have the facility to "Timeline Render" as some other NLEs do and, even if it did, your project assets would remain intact. and a copy of the rendered project would appear in the library and would be playable in VSX5, so how are you trying to import the rendered MPEG file into VSX5 have you tried simply dragging the file into your library.DayO wrote:In applying an Audio Filter to a video clip, my whole 27-minute VSP X5 .AVI Project got rendered to .MPEG format--and I followed Corel Board instructions to the letter, mind you...[/b]
There is something you are not telling us or an action you have forgotten about, it's just not possible to lose your project assets just because the project has been rendered.
There is a lesson to be learnt from your experience with this project, do not just save your project with the same name, each time you close VS use "save as" and add an extension number to your project name ie. 0001, 0002 etc. this way you will always have a backup file in case something goes drastically wrong with the particular file you are working with, do not rely on the automatic save interval as a means of saving your project.

Re: VSP X5 Project Rendered Accidentally in .MPEG....
Can you play the mpg file on your system? If yes then there is no reason at all to convert to another format. Why would you want to convert to avi"DayO wrote:When I open the Project, only the first three clips of the original .vsp Project appear on the Timeline. There is no Error message.

VideoSTudio accepts mpg video without any problems since it is one of the most common video format out there.
As Robert says, we are not getting all the information on what your did or are doing.
If you "lost" some video clips then it is because you deliberately removed them from your project. When you "Save" a project it will overwrite the previous project file. Saving a project is completely different from rendering a project to a video file.

Re: VSP X5 Project Rendered Accidentally in .MPEG....
Well, I wasn't able to Import the .MPEG version of the project--it just didn't show up the the Import(able) listings on my HD; I thought
maybe if I converted that to .AVI format, it might show up in the Import(able) listings, as other .AVI files did. Just a hunch.
But, as you suggested, I tried dragging the .MPEG version into the Library, and dragged that to the Timeline. That worked.
Thank you1
I'm a relative novice to VSP X5, and I find it very dense and elusive. Of course, having ADHD doesn't help, either...
Thanks again for all your help; Sorry about all the confusion....

Glad that you have finally managed to import your project,

Video Studio is one of the most user friendly NLEs on the market, it is very easy to use compared to other NLEs of comparable value.

Both the sites mentioned by Robert are good. Another, in my opinion, set of basic and easy to follow tutorials can be found at https://www.youtube.com/user/SoftwareTutorialer .

There is also a book available that I found to be very helpful. "Picture Yourself Making Creative Movies with VideoStudio Pro X5" by Marc Bech. There are sample clips that you download and use with the exercises in the book.
