Experiencing Video Footage "Stutter" With VSP X5

Post by DayO »

While creating and editing a new video in VSP X5, suddenly I'm experiencing playback "stutter;" sometimes a footage segment will stutter, while another one doesn't...

The video footage is in AVCHD format, and I've worked with this footage before without playback stutter.

YouTube videos play back OK on my PC and my video drivers are up to date...what gives?

Is the video p or i? In other words, have you switched to making video which is fully progressive (p), say at 50/60 full fps? Or is it interleaved at 50/60 half frames per second?

Where do I find that information?

Simply right click on one of the clips in the VS timeline and select Properties. If it says Upper Field First, then it is interlaced; if not then it will be progressive.

Under Properties, it says, Upper Field First...

What adjustments could I apply to eliminate the stuttering?

Hi

AVCHD can be quite demanding on the pc resources, when editing or adding transitions/filters can add to the playback problem.
Video Studio does use Smart Proxy files that do help in playback and reduce stuttering. Assuming it is a playback issue, you do say the other media players show the video as ok.

Make sure Smart Proxy is selected/active, Settings - Smart Proxy Manager – Enable Smart Proxy is ticked
Then select the clips in the timeline and right click for Create Smart Proxy files.
Files do take a while to create so be patient. Once created a small icon will show on the video within the library and timeline.

Adding a new clip to the timeline should automatically create the proxy files.

Does using Smart Proxy improve playback for you?

Have Smart Proxy activated, but didn't realize there were more steps to its useage...

Will try your suggestion shortly, Thanks.
