I tried to capture from my Sony HDV camcorder with VideoStudio pro X7 and wanted to activate the button "Scene splitting".
This button is greyed out and impossible to activate for me. What am I doing wrong? Wim

Re: Scenes splitting
Nothing.
Most users here of hdv camcorders use hdvsplit to capture and split their movies and then import into VS for editing.

Re: Scenes splitting
You haven't told us exactly what camera you are using but virtually all HDV cameras these days record on some sort of internal memory card - these cameras produce a new file every time you press record then pause - so your video is already split by scene - just copy the files from your camera to your hard drive - there is no 'capturing' required merely copying.

Re: Scenes splitting
my camera is the well known Sony HVR-A1, so I want to capture from tape. So far I used HDVSplit, I know it very well but why should it not work with VideoStudio Pro X7???
The strange thing is for me that obviously there is a possibility to split scenes, otherwise this greyed out button was not there. My question is how to activate this function.
VSPX7 claims to be ready for HD and HDV, I expected capturing HDV, as an essentional part of HDV-editing, to be possible. Why is that button there anyhow? Wim

Re: Scenes splitting
The split-by-scene button during capture is really a fossil, and was there only for DV/AVI format. It never worked with mpeg capture, and HDV, though it uses tape, is of course an mpeg format. I too use HDV split and have never used VS to capture my HDV footage. But I suspect that, as with standard def mpeg captures, once you have captured the whole video, the split-by-scene option is enabled and you actually do the split *after* the capture is finished.

Re: Scenes splitting
Hi Ken, I believe your explanation indicates that it is still the state of the art of MSP8? Thanks, Wim
