MPEG-4 HD Format
My camcorder takes video in the 1080/50p format. When putting edited footage onto a USB memory stick to show on my HD TV, I have found that the MPEG 4 HD format works quite well. However, I see that it is in 30fps rather than 25fps and it seems to be impossible to create a template which combines 25fps with a 1920 x 1080 size. Is there a reason for this or have I overlooked something?

Re: MPEG-4 HD Format
Go to Share, MPEG-4
In Profile select MPEG-4 AVC (1920x1080,30p,15Mbps)
Click on the + sign to create custom profile
Change Profile name to MPEG-4 AVC(1920x1080,25p,15Mbps)
Click on the General Tab and change frame rate to 25 frames/sec
Click OK
There may be an easier way, but that's the way I do it

It would appear that either you installed your copy of VideoStudio with NTSC as the default OR you have set NTSC as your project properties.
I can select the following template without any further adjustments :-

Thank you both for that. However, I am using version XV which seems to be a bit different. Nevertheless, after a great deal more fiddling about, I have found that I can create what I want in the Make Movie Template options by changing the compression option to H264-HIGH.

Re: MPEG-4 HD Format
I spoke too soon. At 25fps the highest setting for frame size is 1280x720. If I change the frame size to 1920x1080 the fps figure automatically changes to 30fps and the option to change it is greyed out and cannot be changed. I have definitely installed VS with PAL and my project properties are also set to PAL.

Re: MPEG-4 HD Format
Brian,
yes XV is version 15,
Be that as it may, "same as first clip" saves to a m2t format, not mp4, whilst project properties will not allow me to go above 720x576.

Re: MPEG-4 HD Format
You din't mention the original extension of the files produced by your camcorder : Are they mp4 or M(2)ts ?
Using CVS X7 or X6 (I uninstalled X5 some time ago) I had no problem to edit and to render 1920 x 1080 mts HD with a frame rate of 50 frames/sec to HD 25 f/sec mp4 or MTS.
Anyway, if your HD TV does not accept .MTS files (I suppose that's the reason why you are converting them into mp4) simply erase the .MTS extension and replace it by .mpeg or .mp4. I had the same problem on my television set not accepting files with an .mts extension but playing happily exactly the same file with another extension.(mpg in my case) even in 50f /sec..

Re: MPEG-4 HD Format
Jan,
Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. Using VS XV, creating a video file with "AVCHD (1920x1080P)" produces a file with the right parameters, but in the m2t format. My TV set up is too picky to recognise that, but merely changing the suffix to mp4 as you suggest, enables it to play properly. So, many thanks for your help.
