I did a quick search here on the forum, to see if there was anyone else looking to create a 'film grain' effect, as I am. The only thread I found was here:
http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... grain#wrap
and it speaks of a "Static" FX, which I do not see in the Trial of VSPx7...
Is there a way to add some grain/noise in x7, perhaps manually if need be? I would be happy to adjust some sort of 'snow' or 'static' to make it dark and random, simulating a Film Grain effect (not the old-film-type, which I have found in x7 fx, just the black 'grains').
Thanks for any ideas

Re: How to add/simulate Film Grain?
I don't know of anything within VideoStudio - but I did a quick Google search and found a bit of film which seems to work.
Download the video from here - http://vimeo.com/29185333 - and put it in an overlay track - apply chroma Key option and it seemed to work OK for me
it has a white background unfortunately which may give odd results when you Chroma key over some videos - but try it - maybe a search of the internet may find you a more suitable clip

Re: How to add/simulate Film Grain?
As far as I know, there is nothing in VideoStudio which may simulate film grain. The only solution already suggested by Briancee is to find some video and put it on an overlay track. After doing that you have to experiment a little with it choosing the adequate parameters : similarity color, overlay mask and transparency. Such free video's are not easy to find and I'm not shure the video suggested by Briancee is exactly what you are looking for.
Some time ago, I have produced such a video for my own needs using different tricks until I was satisfied with it.
I have uploaded it to : https://www.dropbox.com/s/9q7dh1wpm0c5ma7/Film_Grain.ts
Feel free to use it if you like it.

Re: How to add/simulate Film Grain?
Wow, thank you for the speedy replies, both of you
Because such a thing was usually available as a built-in effect [in my limited experience with other products](not meant as a disparaging remark against VS), I didn't think of utilizing an overlay to create what I was thinking of, nice workaround, thank you Brian.
I see that I will indeed have to utilize some sort of overlay to accomplish it, Jan. Nice grain creation, thanks for sharing. If I don't have the time to create one myself and utilize yours, I will make sure to give you credit
