Upgraded to PSP X6 from X2

Post by tonyuk »

Is it possible, as in previous versions, to load one or more photographs EACH with their own rulers? I have to measure many photographs for an archive and having the rulers stuck on the edges of the workspace is useless for my purposes.

Thank you for any help.

If Rulers are enabled they will appear on every photo that is opened in the Workspace.

I think there was a problem with the rulers not displaying properly. This may have been caused with SP1 but possibly fixed with SP2. Someone else may know more.
It was mentioned in this thread:
http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... rs#p279755

I do not see it as I have not installed the Service packs and will not do so until I see that they are no longer causing problems with things I use. Meanwhile I still use X2. You did realise that you do not have to remove X2 before usiing X6??

Thanks Joelle but rulers ARE enabled and do not appear on ANY photo. They stay on the edge of the workspace. Because mine is a new installation and recent updates were incorporated it may be I've got to wait until there is a a patch.

Thanks for that. Since mine is a new installation of X6 and incorporates all updates, I will probably have to wait for a patch.

Hi Tony,

I don't know if this has anything to do with your question, and I use X4, but do you work with tabbed documents (menu Window/Tabbed documents)? If that is checked then you get each file in one tab. If it's not checked you can open multiple files in one workspace, and each should get its own rulers.

Sometimes if I'm not using tabbed documents, if I click on the title bar of an image -it happens to me with the crop tool- PSP will shift back to Tabbed documents. I don't know if that's been fixed in later versions (again, X4).

Good luck finding an answer.

Tony:

I don't remember ever seeing rulers within an image. I've only seen them at the edge of the workspace. What I see is that the ruler shows the overall dimension of each photo, regardless of the window type. It seems you should be able to see the overall dimension immediately, especially if you zoom out a bit. Or select information. To find internal dimensions it seems you would need to use guides to do it accurately. I don't see the capability of obtaining dimensions more easily.

MarkZ -- I may have read your post wrongly, but this is what I get in X6 x64 with SP2 -- showing rulers in each open image:

Yes, that is what I get in Cascade view. Tony wrote

In tab view they do appear to be at the edge of the workspace. I thought he was looking for rulers right in the photo somehow. But perhaps all he needs to do is switch to Window/Cascade view as you have shown.

Hello Ken and Mark,

I've been out of commission for a few days plus a wedding last weekend so hadn't had chance to read your posts.

First I hadn't realised that when only one photograph is loaded, the rule stops at the end of the photo. Thanks for pointing that out.

Second, putting it into cascade view does indeed work ie puts a rule on each photo.

It all looks so much different initially having used X2 for so long.

Once again, many thanks. All's well.

Just to be pedantic, Cascade isn't a view, it's an action. It will untab and cascade visible windows when in Tabbed Documents or just cascade if the workspace is untabbed. Windows are also cascaded when switching from multiple Tabbed Documents to untabbed (unchecking). Tile horizontally and vertically are also actions that will untab and "tile". After that you can place them wherever you want.

That's why I said in my original post, uncheck Tabbed Documents to see rulers in each image, because Tabbed Documents is the reason for rulers outside the image, not Cascade or Tile.
