Is anyone awake at Corel?
I know. Where's a new version/update of ASP?
Nothing from Corel even indicates that they have anything on the way. Sure they say something is coming. But so is Christmas. I've given up waiting. Like many other users I've been watching this site for a wee bit but found nothing but silence!!
Nikon is a camera manufacturer not a software provider. But they do also provide 'basic' software for raw conversion. They recently released a beta version of Capture NX-D for public testing, (hint Corel), and I've been 'playing/testing' NX-D and found that the results are 'better' than I can get out of ASP. For sure ASP has more tools but those tools can also be found in other editing software so they are not critical. (In particular NX-D's white balance runs circles around ASP's white balance results. ie Both have a setting labeled 'shady' and both give completely different results. NX-D is all but spot on).
Now if you look at this link http://beta.nikonimglib.com/voice/index.html.en you will see that Nikon even has a feedback page. They ask for input and give answers. Sure it's not a full on discussion but it's way more that Corels effort!!!!
So my question is - if Nikon can make this sort of effort how come a company that 'pretends' to be a software company simply can't wake up long enough to see users abandoning them at a rate that they will never get back. If ever a company has shot themselves in the foot it's Corel. In fact I believe they have shot themselves in both feet.
Next week I'm uninstalling ASP. I'll watch this forum out of interest just to see if Corel can prove me wrong with a program that I simply can't refuse to have.
regards

Re: Is anyone awake at Corel?
If you were reading Corel's news on facebook then you'd know that a) a new ASP version is announced for coming in May and b) plugin programmers can now request the new SDK for ASP 2. So there is something going on.

If you can afford to uninstall it, you have not done anything with it anyway...brucet wrote:Next week I'm uninstalling ASP.

Re: Is anyone awake at Corel?
I don't think the question is if there is eventually a new version coming or not.
The real question is do you want to find yourself waiting in dire straits again half a year after Corel released another, unsupported, unmaintained product, or do you realize that it is time to switch to a more sustainable, better supported option at this point.
Everybody has to answer this question for themselves, and to me it sounds like you've already made up your mind. So have I, and many others on this board.
Cheers!

I think this says everything we need to know about ASP v2...OldRadioGuy wrote:A link to this Corel webpage http://www.aftershotpro.com/en/plugins/ ... fault.html just went up on the AfterShot Pro Facebook site a couple of hours ago.

ASP v2, with Corel's patented imaginary processing pipeline.Choose exactly where you want your plug-in to run within our imagine processing pipeline

Re: Is anyone awake at Corel?
The main point of my post was to highlight the fact that Nikon has a very basic communication in place. Why can't Corel see that that is all they had to do.

Let's just put it that way, certain forms of communication, while not visible to the public, have changed significantly this year. That does not mean everything is fine and perfect, but now there is a realistic chance of improvement.brucet wrote:The main point of my post was to highlight the fact that Nikon has a very basic communication in place. Re: Is anyone awake at Corel?
If true, then good. But that leaves the question "at what cost". We have been essentially orphaned with ASP, little to no meaningful development for several years.afx wrote:Let's just put it that way, certain forms of communication, while not visible to the public, have changed significantly this year. Now things are changing behind the scenes and they are starting to talk about v2. I doubt there are many people who are going to be willing to fork out more money for v2 when v1 was such an abysmal failure on Corel's part.

You would be amazed how many people buy software without knowing any background at all.mbellot wrote: I doubt there are many people who are going to be willing to fork out more money for v2 when v1 was such an abysmal failure on Corel's part.
Price is the key factor for many.

Re: Is anyone awake at Corel?
afx I have no doubt Corel is 'working' on something. I hope it's a great program. But while they have been fiddling in silence Rome is burning. Many folks like me have given up and moved on. We had to. New cameras that were unsupported simply don't allow us to use out of date software. The thing is that those who move on tell others and soon they tell others. Reputations become very muddy in the meantime.
I now find that Nikons own software gives me results that allow me to uninstall ASP. With PSPx6 and some plugins I can do everything ASP can do. In fact often better than ASP. If Corel had 'hinted' at what was coming I may have been tempted to wait a wee bit longer.
I hope ASP v2 is good enough to hook me back.

But rarely will they buy the same s/w twice if they get treated the way ASP users have been treated by Corel.

Well, so far development looks exactly like I predicted. But it is picking up.stefanve wrote:really great to hear something is cooking, maybe I was wrong to eat my words

Well that or you've run into the brick wall Corel created preventing you from using ASP with new cameras.afx wrote:If you can afford to uninstall it, you have not done anything with it anyway...brucet wrote:Next week I'm uninstalling ASP.
