Creating XviD files
As will soon become apparent I have never been able to get my head around file formats. However, I have recently got a Humax PVR (model HDR-2000T) which, according to the user manual, can play video files in XviD format from an external hard disc. My question, therefore, is how, using VideoStudio XV, do I create video files which the PVR is likely to be able to read and play back.

Re: Creating XviD files
XVid is an open source codec (i.e. freeware) which is roughly equivalent to DivX (commercial, though with a free version of the codec). You have to download and install the XVid codec (google it), and then, if you are wanting to produce XVid files, you have to choose Custom > AVI as the general output format, and on the Compression tab, when you click on Options, choose XVid as the codec. This brings up the XVid interface, but it can be complicated to choose exactly what you are after.

According to what I noticed on Internet, your device accepts WMV HD, hi-def AVI, AVCHD and MP4 as well. As far as I remember (I am using CVS X7 now), CVS X5 can render some or all of those formats. So, you don't need to create XviD files.

Jan,
Thank you for that pointer. I think that some of the formats mentioned have worked well when streamed rather than put on an external hard disc. However, after a bit of trial and error, I have found that of the pre-installed templates, MP4-HD works very well, so problem solved.
