Transparent buttons

How do I use an image with transparent areas as a button in DVDW2?

I have created an image and saved as a PNG file (with transparency ON) but when I add the image to my menu, all the areas which should be transparent aren't.

Reading on the web suggested using PhotoImpact. I tried this, set my transparent areas (displayed in grey/white check) and again saved as a PNG. When I loaded this into DVDW the result was exactly the same.

If I click the thumbnail and select properties, the information shows says "Transparency: Yes".

Ideally I would like to create my images in Paint Shop Pro as this is something I am comfortable using.

Any ideas where I may be going wrong??

Any help would be most appreciated.

In PhotoImpact create a new document and set it to Transparent.

open the image you want and cut the portions you would only like to see in the DVD menu (use lasso tool). Once the end points of the lasso has been closed, drag the selected portion to your transparent document that you created earlier. save it as PNG then put it in your objects library. try adding the image to your dvd menu.

I tried this and PhotoImpact says that:

"the file format you have chosen does not support object saving. If you choose to continue, all objects will be merged onto the base image"

so I can't get the transparency that i need for my button.

Is there a different way round the problem?
