UVS 9.0 won't trim normal AVI video file.

Sorry to bug you guys again, especially after getting some much needed help already.

Ok, I am looking at the info now, it says:

"Rush - 1984 Grace Under Pressure Tour"
File Format: Microsoft AVI files - OpenDML
Video Compression: Divx Decoder Filter
Audio Compression: MPEG-Layer 3
=======

I have Dr. Divx installed and have used it several times to compress both AVI and MPEG movies, and it always saves the compressed movie as an AVI which plays just fine, so I know the Divx filter works properly.

I can place the avi on the UVS timeline and cut it wherever I want, but when i click "save trimmed video" I get the following error message:

"This AVI Codec ID cannot be trimmed."

The non-trimmed Avi plays normally through Windows Media and Divx players, so there probably isn't anything wrong with the file itself.

So far the only solution still seems to be using Nero 6 to export avi to mpeg, then trim the mpeg.

I didn't expect that I'd need to download additional codecs. If UVS says it can do X, doesn't that assume UVS comes WITH the proper codec required for performing that action? But i like UVS enough to put up with this delay.

Again, thanks in advance for your help.

Try using Mark In / Mark Out, then go to Share -> Create Video File, select Custom, set the File Format to AVI, click on Options, choose to save the Preview Range only instead of the whole project, click on Compression, and select the codecs of your choice.

Yes, this worked, except that the saving of the marked out file was very slow.

If UVS 9.0 is supposed to be abe to trim and save avi files normally justlike mpegs, I wonder if maybe my trial version is missing something.

thanks for your help again.

No, the UVS trial version isn't missing anything.

The problem is being caused by the DIVX codec and how the video is compressed. That's why UVS reports that files using that particular codec can't be trimmed -- it's not saying that no AVI files can be trimmed. Something about the file properties is preventing trimming, possibly a very long keyframe interval.
