Rendering issues X7

Post by aladdin »

I just bought a brand new alienware laptop top class and I am using corel video studio X7, the trial version . Edited a 7 minute HD video last night to upload to youtube and the rendering (saving) of the video took over 7 hours. I am saving it as a mpeg4 1080hd file but there is no way it should take this long. I am using basic cuts and the touch up filter on the video and that's all. Any advice on how to make this process faster? Thank you.

Welcome to the forum,

You are correct, it should not take that long to render a 7 min HD mpeg4 video. I also render to HD, the average render time for a 12 min video using multiple timelines, text, fx effects and music is around the 25-30 min mark.
The trial version is supposed to be a fully functional version, but it's possible there are some limitations with HD, as is normal with many trial versions of NLEs
Can you provide more information, type of camera, video and audio properties, have you used the standard profile MPEG-4 AVC(1920x1080,30p,15Mbps or have you created a customized profile

The camara is a canon 330hs. We really noticed it rendering so slow as soon as we added the filter to the clips. Before we used any filter, it would render in about a half hour, now it's like 8.
and I tried both customized and standard profile.
I do videos on youtube and need this program to save fast and in the highest quality and I want to be able to use the filter without it taking so long. Thank you so much for taking the time to help!

Hi

When you do Share Create Video File “Create a video you can Play…”

At the top there are two options “Same as project properties” and "Same as First Video clip."

Have you tried same as first video clip.

Yes I also have tried that.
And It seems the rendering takes that long only when I add the touch up filter.
Is that normal ?

Thank you !

Hi

Yes it is normal for rendering to take longer when adding effects, the encoder simply has more work to do.
But 7 hours for a 7 minute video does seem excessive.

I can only assume Video Studio has difficulty in reading the file, some non standard file format can cause problems.

It may be that you need to use a Video Converter to create a more editable format.

Can you make a sample available for download then we can try your render process on our pc’s. I am running W7 but can give it a go.

I see from a review of the camera that it has three movie modes -- so which one were you using?
The IXUS 255 HS / ELPH 330 HS can record Full HD movies with stereo sound and control over the optical zoom while you're filming. In all, there are three movie modes, 1080p24, 720p30 and 640x480 at 30fps. All are encoded using the H.264 codec and saved as QuickTime files with a .mov extension in the same folder as still photos.
In any case, we are aware that VS has difficulty producing high def h.264 .mov files, so that would immediately present a problem if you matched the Project Properties to those of the video and used Same As Project Properties or Same As First Clip for output...

So do you just want me to send a smart package with the files on it ?and how do you want me to send that?

Hi
Smart Package would be best as it will contain all your edits.
You cannot attach to your post as the files are to large.

There are several free sharing sites that can be used.
I use Microsoft / Outlooks One Drive, It used to be called SkyDrive till a recent re-name.
https://onedrive.live.com/

I believe it allows a 2 Gb file limit. Not that you should go that far.
Once uploaded you Share the file by creating a link, add the link to your post.

Use the smallest clips you can keeping the package small. Maybe 100Mb.

There are other share sites, do a google search.

I can confirm that the "Touch up Filter" causes major rendering issues, just tried a 7 min project using the filter and after 5 mins. completion was still at 0%, whereas without the filter rendering was completed in about 15 min.
This filter is a New Blue filter and it's the first one I have had issues with.

The TouchUp filter is included with VSX7 and as such would be a new version, it would appear that there is something drastically wrong with this Corel version, so yes it is a bug.
I just carried out the same test in Adobe Premiere Elements 12, no issues, rendered at twice the speed of VSX7 (even without the effect being applied in VSX7) but that is to be expected as VSX7 rendering speed has been an issue since product launch.
But is the issue Corels problem to fix, or a New Blue problem, I will contact New Blue for their recommendations

Is there anything that we can do to make rendering go faster?

I have videos that average 30 minutes in length and rendering usually runs > 1hr sometimes >2hr. I thought 64bit would make a difference but I do not really see any.

I have avchd video files and I am creating mp4 videos using the default 1920x1080 default format.

Thanks in advance
