Poor resolution of photos in X6

Post by Mat7 »

Hi,
With VS PROX6 I got a problem to get the high resolution with photos inserted in a viedeo. My photos are large (8MPixs) and when I insert them into a video, the resolution on the monitor/screen is terrible! Could you advice me how to improve it? Settings or what, pls?

Mat -- I have split your topic away from the thread in which you posted it as it had nothing at all to do with the subject of that thread. That only creates confusion. Hopefully you will now get more answers in this separate thread.

Personally, I always make sure that in Settings > Preferences > Edit, under Image, that Keep Aspect Ratio is selected and the box beside "Apply anti-flickering filter on photos" is ticked. Other users will no doubt have other ideas.

Note also that the preview screen in VS is not one of its strong points, and often doesn't give an accurate idea of what the final result will look like. Have you actually rendered a project which contains photos? Do you still get a bad result in the final output?

As an alternative to maintain aspect ratio which can give black edges with some photos I often crop the photos to a 16:9 ratio before inserting them and using fit to screen.

Also remember that although your photos may be 8 Mpix a video does not display anything like that - even widescreen HD only has around 2 Mpix

Hi,
thanks however I wonder where can I see how large (how many Mpixs) the photos are in a video? I did have 16:9 ratio so there should not be a problem.

Hi Martin

With your image in the timeline, right click the clip and choose Properties
The Attributes should show the width and height in pixels
What are they?

Just look at the frame size in your project - usually set by the size of the videos you are using - typical for a wide screen HD is 1920 by 1080 - multiply the two together and you get just over 2 Mpix

Smaller frame sizes will produce even lower figures

Hi
This is the first time I am making a picture slide movie using Corel Studio (X6, thus not so familiar with all the details in the software, but I do have the same problem, my pictures are about 3-4 Meg each. Anti flickering filter is ticked (default). Made a DVD of the slide show but in comparison to the original pictures the resolution is poor. Thanks for your inputs in advance.

If you are creating a standard DVD then the resolution of the video is always (at best) 720x580 for NTSC (720x576 for PAL). The resolution or size of your source images does not matter since all will be "converted" to the DVD standard. So if start with a high resolution, sharp image you will lose quality when creating the DVD. There is nothing you can do about that except create a HiDef video.
