Create DVD X7

Post by dumbdumber »

I'm trying to create my first dvd in Pro x7. I have 3 video studio projects to add but when I go to Share, Create DVD, add Videostudio project files it says the file format is not supported. Please help as I've been working on these projects for hours! Thanks

If you are trying to add them as projects - that is as a .vsp then you must click on the second icon in the top left corner of the create disc module - it has a little "vsp" on it.

If you are trying to import a video file of your project then you need to click on the first icon - in which case what is the format of the video you are trying to import.

Hi,
Yes, I clicked on the second icon as I thought they were vsp files, I've gone into My Projects and viewed the properties it says they're Corel VideoStudio Pro Document (.VSP). Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Thanks

Do any of the 3 vsp project files load?

Instead of using the vsp project files to create the DVD, first create a video file from each project file. Then when you have created the video files, use those to create your DVD.

Hi, They will load one by one if I open them in the big window in the top left first, but I want all 3 of them on one dvd.
What do I choose to create a video file first? Thanks

Instead of selecting Create DVD, select Create Video file.

Could you explain exactly what you are doing when you try to load the vsp files? If each vsp file loads on its own then there is nothing wrong with the vsp files. You must not be loading them correctly.

I click on Share, then the Disc icon, then DVD. A popup box comes up, in add media (top left) I click on videostudio project files, then click on my video names. A box comes up saying File Format of C:/Users/User/Dovuments/Corelvideo studio pro/My Projects/2014/marelentv14c.vsp is not supported.

It sounds as though you are trying to select all three projects in one go. If so, try selecting and inserting them one by one. But I also agree with what has been said earlier: in our experience it is often better, after you finish editing each project, to convert each of them into a new video file, and then, when ready to burn, insert those new videos instead of the vsp files.

Hi dumbdumber

As “Canuck” earlier reply

Open the project in Video Studio.
Choose Share Create Video File-DVD, that should render the project to a new Mpeg2 video file .
Do this for each project.
Do you have any problems in opening and rendering the video project.?
You should now have three video files.

Start a new project, Share Create disc – DVD add Video Files
Do not add VSP Project files.

One question , how long is your movie?

Thanks for your help.
I also realised the files were too long to fit on one dvd, so I also made them smaller first(from a topic I found on this forum).
All seems ok now, just have to take the dvd to work now to make sure it plays on our ancient dvd player!

This is now driving me MAD!
I had to make some changes to the videos (now 8 files to put onto one DVD).
I saved them all as Custom first (MPEG), and now again when I go into create DVD it adds the first file but them says it is not supported (as post above) for the rest. Please help as I'm ready to throw the whole PC out of the window!

Hi

We do seem to have some problem with the workflow.

Open the first project in the timeline, Tell us how long this project is in minutes.
Do this for the other two projects.

What is the length of your projects?

The length of the movie will determine the Data Rate to be used to create a video file under 4.3 Gb, which will fit to disc.
You may have to burn more than one disc.

Open project one in the timeline and Share Create Video to play on computer – Choose the Mpeg2 option (MPEG-2 (720 x 576, 16:9, 50i, 8Mbps)
This uses 8000kbps video data rate, this is suitable for 60 minutes of video.
If your total footage is 90 minutes then you have to reduce the data rate to 6000kbps. That is why we need to know the durations of your projects.

Render each project in the same way will produce three video files, MPG files. The total size of these should be lower than 4.3 Gb and fit to disc.
Are you able to render each project to create a MPG video file?

To burn a disc
Start a new project (nothing in the timeline) Share Create Disc-DVD

Add the MPG video files, do not add VSP files.
The green bar indicates the duration and size of the movie, it should show as green with no yellow or red showing.

Workflow
1 / import video to timelines
2 / edit video
3 / determine the duration of your movie, to calculate the data rate.
4 / render project to create DVD compliant Mpeg2 video file
5 / from a new project (nothing in the timelines) Share Create Disc –DVD –Add video files

I've just realised what I've been doing wrong.
I converted them all to custom MPEG and date rate 6000 so they would all fit on one DVD.
But - when I was opening the projects/adding them to the DVD I was opening them from My Projects, which were still the original ones.
I have now found the new files in a folder called 17.0 and am burning disc as we speak. I didn't know anything about this folder as everything I've done before has been saved into My Projects.

Thanks

When you create the custom mpeg files you can select the folder in which the created files are stored. You do not have to accept the default "17.0" folder.

Great thanks, probably wasn't even looking when I saved them as I assumed they'd go into My Projects. Learn something new every day!
