Hi
Thanks for all your help in testing this quality issue.
I am pretty new to HD and it’s the first time I have tried converting MTS to DVD.
Corel has to do better.
I know the poor quality has been mentioned before but always thought that was inherent in reducing the Frame Sizes and Data Rates, you would expect some reductions but this is just poor.
I ran tests on all Video Studio products I own, Video Studio 7 is remarkably bad compared to all others.
I don’t know if Corel will listen but I have passed a couple of samples for them to view, we can only try.
In the meantime I will be using another converter to create my Mpeg2 files.
Thanks again guys……..

Re: Converting MTS tp Mpeg2 - quality issues
Hi
Have been playing around with this issue for a little while. I have ProX4 ultimate. This year I have been videoing rugby games and have found this setting works very well and have tested it with the original sample posted. Share > Create Video file > select HDV from the drop down menu > select HDV 720p - 25p (for HDV) and render the clip. I did this with the clip and then went to burn the dvd. In the settings I selected Change MPEG settings > customize. I put the compression setting to 100% quality and changed the audio bitrate to 384 to match the rendered clip. The resulting dvd came out well. There was a slight shimmer on the panning of the columns but other than that it gave a very good result on my dvd player and television. It does not work for everything (indeed the showjumping clips I take need a different setting) but it seems to give a good result for this.

Re: Converting MTS tp Mpeg2 - quality issues
Hi Ian
Thanks for the information, I tried using DV- Avi which was my older video editing format but that produced terrible quality. (MTS to DV-Avi to DVD)
The problem is clearly with X7 as other editors seem to cope, at least to produce something acceptable.
But as you say conversions do not work for everything.
The church sample clip is probably the hardest to convert given the vertical lines, I suppose the best to use as a test sample.
I have one HD project to convert to DVD and like everyone I want as good a quality as I can, I don’t intend to make a habit of burning standard discs any more.
