Hi guys...
New project...I used two cameras and a separate audio source at a school choir concert.
One of the cameras (a GoPro), and the audio (from a Zoom H1), ran continuously thru the concert...the other camera, a (Sony Nex-6), stopped and started maybe a dozen times...I want to be able to use the video from both cameras, and of course the separate audio, to produce the video...at the moment, I am just trying to sync up the audio and video from ONE of the songs in the concert, which is near the end, so...
1) I dragged the 90-minute audio track from the school choir concert to the timeline. OK...that worked.
2) Now I want to drag a 5-minute-ish video clip onto the timeline, so that it is in the correct position on the timeline, to sync with the audio...in this case, the video clip needs to start at about the 80-minute mark on the timeline.
OK...this is probably a super dumb question, but how do I drag/move the video clip down the timeline so I can sync it up with the audio? When I drag the clip down from the media section, it snaps to the beginning of the timeline, and I can't figure how to move it.
Thanks...
How do I insert the first video clip NOT at the beginning?

After you have put your sound track in an audio track the short segment of video should now go into one of the overlay tracks - where it will stay wherever you put them - it is only the top track which snaps left - overlay track videos stay where put it is not essential to have anything in the top track.
clips in the timeline are moved by selecting the clip - so that it has yellow lines all around it - then hovering the mouse cursor over the clip so that it changes to a fourway arrow - then left click and hold while you slide left or right.

Re: How do I insert the first video clip NOT at the beginnin
Brian...thanks for the quick response, I now understand the difference between the overlay track and the "video" track...but I still have a problem...
I have two video tracks I want to work with, let's call them "camera A" and "camera B".
Anyway, I want to be able to use both cameras...how do I place both camera's video tracks/clips so that I can move them BOTH to sync up with the existing and continuous audio track? Or is that not possible? Do I need to create a 2nd overlay track? Is THAT possible?
Thanks...

Oops...sorry...looks like I found my answer...yes, up to 20 overlay tracks can be used:

Well...I guess I do have one more question...
Is working with overlay tracks the best way to cut back and forth between my two cameras?
Am I talking about "A/B Roll" editing? Is that kind of the poor man's version of multicam editing?
Thanks...

Re: How do I insert the first video clip NOT at the beginnin
When doing an A/B camera edit you would normally put the continuous video in the top track and if it is not the main audio source you should mute (right click over video - select mute) the sound and sync the video and your sound track
now put the second camera clips in the first overlay track and cut (using the scissor tool) each clip to the length you want, mute it's sound and move it along the overlay track and sync with the main sound track.
when playing back - if there is no clip in the overlay track the main video will show - when there is a clip in the overlay the overlay clip will show.
any additional effects - masks or objects for instance - should be put in another overlay
