Corel VideoStudio X7 Pro Trial Problem

Post by ZKirch »

I recently downloaded a trial of X7 on 32-Bit, and upon opening the program after installing it, I was greeted with (what I assume) was the window indicating my copy is a trial, and probably providing a link to purchase the full version, but the window only opens a blank page. Absolutely no text, images, anything, except for the words on the window, "Corel VideoStudio" and a large banner that says "VideoStudio(c) X7", regardless of which of the three installed programs I open. I restarted my computer and attempted to open them a few more times, to no avail, and decided to uninstall, trying again with the 64-Bit version. After downloading and installing that one as well, I came across the exact same problem.

I was able to run the trial of X6 not too long ago, but wanted to try X7 when I saw it on the site instead. I have no clue why it's not working, but the only option available, as nothing in the window seems clickable, is to close it... I'm hoping I'm just an idiot and doing something wrong that's easily fixed, because I enjoyed X6 quite a bit, and would love to try this out!

do you still have the trial version of X6 on your computer?
if so, maybe try uninstalling it, then try X7
cheers

I forgot to mention that, but I did in fact remove the trial of X6, I did it while uninstalling the 32-Bit version, before installing the 64.

ok cool,

A couple of thoughts

Have you recently installed any other software that could have affected X7, maybe other video software, drivers, even games etc?
Do you have a restore point that you can go back to, before you installed X6, and load X7 onto that version of your system?
cheers

I haven't installed anything recently that I know of that could have an effect on X7, but as far as a restore point goes, no I don't believe so. I got X6 a few months back, I believe... Could the fact that the trial of X6 ended some time ago be affecting the trial of X7?

Have you actually checked in Control Panel > Recovery to see when your Restore points are?

And no, there should not be any link between an expired X6 trial version and X7 trial...

Windows should have created a restore point before installing X6, I think Windows always does a restore point prior to any software installation.
good luck

I have exactly same problem. Exactly word for Word as in the original message here. I created screen shots and sent these to Corel. I have written a second time.

I will post you the replies next time. I joined this group 3 days ago. I have yet to learn how to use the site. It seems a great site.
I can see how to upload an attachment. Hence I am sending this for your perusal.

Thanks every one

Alright, decided to give that a try, the oldest restore point I had was apparently only two days ago, and while there was a box to tick that claimed it would reveal more restore points, no extras were listed. I gave it a shot anyways, and after that was over though, the program still had the same problem on opening.

Hi Guys

We do not work for Corel, we are volunteers running the forum so in the same boat as you.

However Ken, one of the Administrators has forwarded this problem to Corel, see his post here.

I have advised the Corel exec in charge of VS to have a look at this thread and another. She is located in Taiwan, so I don't expect an immediate reply... But I will report back when/if I receive any more information.
Unquote:-

Corel has a facebook account, you could use that to report the problem, I am sure they are aware but the more people complaining the sooner they will listen and find a fix.

I solved the problem of the white box. Solution is:
1. From the control panel windows set to default settings the Internet Explorer
2. In Internet Explorer settings add properties to trusted hosts http://www.corel.com, iws.corel.com, apps.corel.com, corel.com. For trusted sites allow all ActiveX launch options.
3. Clear the cooke and cache in Internet Explorer.
4. For Windows 7. Remove the all files in the SystemDrive:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Corel\Messages (Example c:\Users\Poll\AppData\Roaming\Corel\Messages)

re-run VideoStudio and use.

I decided to try what alexs3 was suggesting worked for him and the program appears to be up and running. I only ended up clearing my cache in IE (I feel like that wasn't incredibly related to the problem), trusting the website, and removing the files from the Corel\Messages folder. Looks like it's working fine now, though, thanks for the help, everyone!
