Sort of, yes. I discovered by accident that it has associated itself with my old .VSP files, so that when I double-click on them, VS X8 opens (bypassing the problematic registration window). No serial number is listed in the Help/About box, so that doesn't help me with registration.

Of course, it will stop working once the trial period expires, and I'll have no way to register a purchase unless this problem can be solved.

I dare say that it would work fine on a clean installation of Windows, but I'm not in a position to do that. I suspect that, if VS 11 had uninstalled itself completely, this problem wouldn't be occurring. (But I could be wrong about that.)

If you're right, it might come good soon. I was hoping to buy it before the current 15% off offer expires on 27 April.

Trial versions do not have serial numbers - you will not have a serial number for a trial

If/When you make a purchase you will need to completely remove the trial version - it has several functions removed or disabled - then download the complete programme which will come with a serial number which you will be able to register either through the guide or direct online - the fact that you appear not to be able to register the trial version - despite receiving several emails telling you that it is registered - has no relevance at all to a purchased copy.

You may be right—but this page explicitly refers to registering the trial version.

Since the trial version won't even start normally on my computer, I'm unwilling to pay money to find out that the purchased version uses the same sort of windows/panels that don't work on my computer. The other posts in this thread seem to get the same problem with the purchased version (eg, here).

I do appreciate your efforts to help me. :)

Sorry, but I can't seem to find that on that page. It refers to activating the trial version -- but that usually means making it the full version, and as Brian said above, we recommend people don't follow that route but instead totally uninstall the trial version and download the full version for separate installation.

And the videos on that page only refer to installation of the full download and boxed versions, not the trial version...

Maybe the page is different when viewed from Australia. Almost the first words are:
VideoStudio® Pro X8
Help with Downloading
Activate Trial Version - Video
Further down the page, there's a video showing the process to 'Activate your trial version of VideoStudio® Pro X7'. This may be the link to it. The process uses the windows that won't work for me, and seems to convert the trial version to the paid version.

If I can't run the trial version, I have no confidence that the paid version would work for me.

Yes, that is correct regarding the video for activating the trial version of X7. But the serial number used to activate it is the number you receive when you buy the program, not a serial number that comes with the trial version.

I assume that the same applies to X8... but unfortunately Corel changed so much about the trial version this time round that registration could be just another thing they screwed up! So I can understand your frustration...

Thanks, Ken. I do see that the X8 closing nag screen is different (it doesn't have the 'Already puchased' button), and I appreciate the wisdom of installing a clean version of the paid product. I love Paintshop Pro X7, and VideoStudio X8 seems to have improved greatly over my decrepit version 11. The only thing that's holding me back from a purchase is my concern that I would need to use one of those blank panels to enter the serial number of the purchased program.

Hi

Activating the trial version, yes it does ask for some details before running the program.

However if you disconnect from the internet then run the program you can select "register later" or some such words.
The program will run without providing details.
