Need help in changing resolution for LG phone using PSP X3

Post by sas300zx »

Hi all,

I need help using PSP X3. I haven't used it in a very long time, and only then, to do basic functions. Now I'm recovering from cancer and a stroke, and I'm finding even basic functions to be difficult. I got a new LG phone recently, and wanted to transfer some pics to that phone. Most seem to transfer ok, but a few, taken with a newer digital camera, came back with an error of "unsupported resolution." I had to email LG for tech support on this error. I got a response stating:

"The resolutions that are supported by the phone are:

1600 / 1200 - 2m
1280 / 960 - 1m
640 / 480 - VGA
230/240 - QVGA"

I thought PSP could help me fix these photos, to allow me to transfer and view them on the LG phone, however, I am at a loss on how to do this, or if it's even possible. I've looked for help within the program, and on the forum, but if the answer is here, I am unable to find it.

Any help on how to do this would be greatly appreciated. I would need detailed, step by step instructions as I am not as able to accomplish more complex tasks as I was prior to my stroke. Thanks again!

I'll take a stab at this and perhaps others will chime in. I don't have X3 on my system but I think the commands would be similar to the later versions. I don't have the phone you do so I'm hoping my guesses about this are correct.

It appears to me that the photos you are trying to load onto the phone are likely too large. It appears that the largest photos that the phone will accommodate is 2 megabites and that all the formats have a ratio of the large side divided by the small side of 1.333; I'm not sure how important that is. You say that you were able to load some photos to the phone. Look at one of those photos in PSP edit mode. Somewhere there should be an icon for information about the image. In my version there is a circle with an i in it. Click on the information icon and look for image information. There should be an item called dimensions - calculate the ratio of the larger dimension divided by the smaller. If it is 1.333 I suggest that is a ratio you should stick to. If it is a different number (in my case it is 1.50) then you will not need to change the ratio for the images that failed transfer.

If you need to change the ratio, in edit, from the toolbar select the crop tool. If you are not sure which tool it is, hover over the tool icons and the names will pop up. When you click on the crop tool a dotted box appears. (I assume that your image is landscape mode, that it is wider than it is taller. If it is portrait mode, click on the icon that looks a bit like and L with an arrow - this will change the crop selection to portrait mode, taller than wider.) There is a selection box below the dotted lines. One of the items will be either "last applied" or numbers such as 4 x 6 with a little arrow at the right side. Click on the arrow and a list appears - select 3x4; this will give you the correct ratio. Now click inside the dotted box and a cross appears - click in the box and drag it to one corner of the image. Then select the opposite corner and drag that to take in the amount of the picture that you want. As you drag the corner both the width and the height will change so that the ratio stays the same. The focus point for the corners are small so you need to work carefully. When you are satisfied with your crop selection click on the check mark in the selection box.

If you do not need to change the ratio you will start here or you will continue after cropping. At this point you want to change the size of the image so it will be 2 MB or less. From the menu bar select Image and in the menu that drops down select Resize. There are two section in the box that appears, Print size and Pixel dimensions. In the upper section find Resolution and change the number there to 72 if it is different by double clicking on the number and then typing in what you want. Then move to Pixel dimensions and under the heading "New", change the larger number to 1600. The smaller number should automatically change to 1200. Click OK. Your picture will become smaller.

Go to the menu and select File and then "Save as". Enter a new name so your original will not be changes and click OK. Pay attention to the directory where the photo is saved so you can then find it for your upload.

Good luck, I hope this will work for you.
