X7 reaction to a MP4 file

Post by Terfyn »

I recorded a Slo-Mo file on my HC-V750, it created a MP4 file. When I tried to open it in X7 using both Browse and Import from Digital Media, X7 stopped working. It will open fine in Windows Movie Maker.
Any ideas please?

Hi Terfyn

You should know better, the first thing we ask for is the properties of the video file.

First thought is to rename the MP4 to use Mov as the files extension. Does that make a difference?

Are you able to upload a sample to a sharing site so we can try on our systems.

Sorry (slap wrist) It sort of sorted itself out. I ran it through Windows Movie Maker and saved it as a .wmv file. This loaded directly into X7 and I have now rendered it to load into Vimeo.

Hi

Ok nice to hear you managed to get the video working.
Strange that VS did not like it though.

Slow-Mo, do you set the camera to take one frame every so many seconds, I was trying something similar with my Pana 900, seems to work well.

Can you provide the vimeo link?

How does this URL loader work.

The 750 has a Slo-Mo option in it as well as the Time Lag that is on the 900

What are we talking about here when we say "Slo-Mo" - if Slo-mo is an abbreviation for slow motion then than means filming at a very high frame rate and playing back at a normal speed - how on earth does taking a picture every few seconds and then playing back at a normal speed produce slow motion - surely that produces a very high speed result where every thing happens very quickly - often referred to at STOP Motion .

So what are we meaning here by slo-mo.

Precisely that. As well as the time lag option the 750 has a slow motion option which effectively slows the action down as, for example, in a golf shot. Please see the 750 specs for an explanation of how it works.

That's what I thought you meant, but Trevor is on about removing frames and I just can't see how that would produce slow motion - removing frames must speed things up - doesn't it ?

Hi

Yes I was thinking of timelapse, that would speed up playback.

Guess I better look at that video.

I would be interested in how the camera produced SloMo without duplicating frames? For that you would need a high speed camera.

Sorry for the confusion

Brian my camera does not remove frames but records one frame every second, instead of 25 fps.

Is that video clip exactly the same one you are having trouble with using VS X7? I loaded it in X6 and have no problems nor using my Roxio Creator.

It was the original MP4 file from the camera. For some reason X7 crashed each time I loaded it but when it was converted to a .wav file using Windows Movie Maker it loaded straight away.

If you downloaded from Vimeo it had already been through the X7 to render and upload to Vimeo.

Above you said it was the original mp4 file from the camera! If that is is not correct then we need the original file as downloaded from the camera.
