Re: Transferring Pro X7 library thumbnails to Pro X8
Just down loaded VS Pro X8 trial version to see if I could successfully export my X7 library folders to X8's library. When I did the export/import of X7's library to X8 I got a small window saying "OK". Hitting it did nothing. And nothing was happening except that everything became unresponsive... like it was in the process of doing something. After waiting 20 min. still nothing appeared, and everything still locked up. I had to shut down and restart to get out of it. When i opened X8 again it's library now had a forth of my X7's library thumbnails... and only that. I reset it's library and repeated export/import procedure. This time zero thumbnails from X7. Is this because its a trial version? Regards, Mike

Re: Importing Pro X7's library into Pro X8
Hi Mike
I have just exported the library from X7 and re-imported to X8 full version.
Yes when importing the program seems to freeze, not responding to anything.
I Viewed the Task Manager showed the program as not responding, I gave it a while and the import completed successfully.
All library folders seemed to be intact.
Other than taking a while the import seemed to work ok.

Re: Importing Pro X7's library into Pro X8
Hi Trevor,
Thanks for trying that for me. So it should work in the trial version. After my first attempt to import into X8 and getting only a faction of my library folders from X7, I "reset" the library in X8 for a second attempt... which produced "nothing". Gave it an hour and half. So it don't seem to work at all after resetting. I suppose doing that I also deleted the FX tools they promised, so I hear. What to do? See if I can get another trial version... Regards, Mike

Re: Importing Pro X7's library into Pro X8
Hi Trevor,
Using another trial version of X8 I had same problem. Only a fraction of my library folders appeared in X8 after waiting an hour. I should note that I'm trying to import from X7 a huge library... like literally thousands of film clips and thousands of photos and close to a thousand music clips that are under some 28 library headings. So when you said it took "a while", about how much time were you speaking of. Also, Trevor, when you imported your library did you get a small window with a "OK" button to push? It does not tell you if I am suppose to push it then... or when? Did you? No statement or hour glass telling me the import is in progress. I'm left guessing, especially when everything is now frozen and your wondering what is going on, or if what appears to be a crash is part of a process that may of may not be happening. Also how do I know when it's finish,or when to restart computer... the only way out of this. There's no communication with the user, so I may be shutting down before the process is complete. Should not Corel do something, like giving some directives after pushing import. If one has to manually transfer his library files, why upgrade? Regards, Mike

Re: Importing Pro X7's library into Pro X8
Hi Mike
In an earlier test I noticed that a video library folder had clips that needed re-linking, a few hundred on an external drive, I think that may have caused some problems with the process, and may have caused the not responding. But I have to say I am still having some issues, sometimes it seems ok then another try fails, I have not worked out the difference?
When you export the library you should see this message:- Import library from X8 to X8 caused the Not Responding for 2 minutes then I was asked to update the instant projects, I choose No.
Then received this message. The imported library does not replace the existing folders but adds them to the library.
Ok so I imported the library again, Not Responding again, this time for good, Device Manager to close the program.
I have had other errors relating to the number of folders not being correct, import library would not work, no idea why I had those errors.?
Like you there is no indication that anything is happening, no scrolls or hour glass, that does seem wrong?
As a said earlier sometimes it works ok other times it fails.
I am only glad I don’t use the library as a media store, my library contains the files for the project I am working on, so I don’t rely on the library manager to back up the library.

Re: Importing Pro X7's library into Pro X8
Hi Trevor,
Thanks for reply. I contacted a Corel tech through live chat on this issue. But they were not sure what was causing my library import problem. The tech thought it could be the massive amount of files... the huge size of my library that I was trying to import in to X8. But I have 16 RAM memory, and I see that you also are having similar problems with your small to modest size library when you import your project files into X8: as you said, your computer would freeze up, there was no indication of an import taking place if it was happening, it would work and then not work, and there was a lack of directives or communication during this entire process. So yes... and a very big yes, Corel, something is wrong here that needs fixing. Something very wrong, because our library is the lifeblood of our projects. And what makes it even more wrong is that this "problem"has been with us for years, causing us hours if not days of manually importing our library project files. And that was then when the libraries were structurally very different from X7's. But now X7 and X8's librarys are very similar, almost identical, and should not be causing a major "problem" like this. Especially since sometime last year I heard that Corel acknowledged this "problem" and said that it was on the table and would be resolved in Pro X8. Well... If they were working on it, it seems the tech went out to lunch... and forgot to come back, leaving this otherwise outstanding software incomplete with its library import still malfunctioning and still X8's number one "problem" and headache. Regards, Mike

Trevor, I think the above problem may receive more attention and input if you change the subject title for our conversation to something like... "Importing Pro X7's library into Pro X8." Mike

Re: Importing Pro X7's library into Pro X8
Hi Mike
I have done that for a few replies, but you can also change the title when replying to the posts.
Seems that the title defaults to the original post and that was indeed X6 to X7.
Anyway have continued testing but so far unable to import without getting Not Responding and that's importing X8 to X8.
I know some earlier tests did work so don't know what has changed.
Post Updated
Just repeated my Export Import test which worked ok? Hmmm

Hi Trevor,
When you hit Import does a small window with a OK button to push appear over your library? And when you push its button is it unresponsive? Mike

Re: Transferring libraries from older to new versions
Hi again,
I finally got all my files from X7 into X8's library. Took about 3 1/2 hours importing. Yeah, I got a lot of stuff. Corel had told me to reset X8's system (not library). Press Windows key then hit letter R. Type %appdata% in the open box. Roaming folder appears. Open Ulead systems. Open Corel Video Studio and then delete 18.0 folder. Startup Pro X8. After that I hit import library. The little "OK" window immediately appeared and I repeatedly hit it's OK button four or six times and also the X until the window disappeared for good. The second it disappeared it started importing my goods. And it did this EVERY TIME I tried it. Note: resetting X8 system, like resetting the library, deletes all library files that were imported. But not sure if resetting the system is needed. For when that little window with the OK button disappears that is when the import begins. It's easy to tell if it's importing by opening up the task manager beside the library. All Corel Video Studio five digit numbers under memory will be standing still. But when you get the little "OK" window to disappear the numbers immediately start moving or increasing, a sure sign that x7's library is importing. When it's done restart computer.
Okay, now the downside. My entire library was now in X8. But... My video clips had no audio (the mute was off and my speakers on and up all the way.) But it gets more interesting. I took a video clip that had good audio from my hard drive, one that was not imported, and dropped it in X8's library and timeline. Result? There was no audio and no audio waveform. I then dropped the SAME CLIP in the library of X7 and bang, it now had audio, and audio waveform on its timeline. I tried this with several more good audio clips from my hard drive. The results were the same. One other thing, while I had no audio in my video clips in X8, I did have audio in its imported music clips. So in X8 I am getting no audio in video clips that were imported AND video clips that were not imported but taken from my hard drive, which I know had good audio. For those SAME VIDEO CLIPS taken from my hard drive does has good audio when played in X7. Interesting... or one big migraine. This one I can't handle. Regards, Mike

Re: Transferring libraries from older to new versions
Hi Mike
Glad you got that working, I used the re-name 18.0 folder to clear my program when testing the import / export options, even so did not find why sometimes it worked and other times not. I don’t think I would reply on the Library Manager?????
Are you using the X8 Trial, as you know this is cut down with many limitations one of which is probably disabling Digital Dolby. So I doubt you will hear any sound if your video files use DD.
Corel did a good job in limiting the features of the trial version.
As you have been in contact with Corel you may be best asking them about the trial and using HD footage.
As Admin we have informed Corel of the problems with the trial, the more people to complain and they may eventually listen.
I would think the limitations would impact on their sales.
Oh
Multiple Imports also duplicate the content of the Transitions Favourites folder, probably only show when testing?

Re: Transferring libraries from older to new versions
Hi Trevor,
From what you're saying, I will have to buy a non-trial upgrade at full price in order to know if this thing works or if all the problems I'm having is in the trial version only. In other words, "this trial version" is telling us that to buy the non-trial version of Corel X8 you HAVE TO TAKE A RISK. You were right... All my video clips are Dolby Digital audio. After searching I found one video clip that did not go mute, still had sound. And as you theorized it turned out to be non-Dolby Media Audio 9.2. So if the trial version had Dolby Digital audio removed, that would explain everything. So if that's the case, my video clips were not adversely affected by importing them into x8. But rather it is the trial version that is adversely affected. Again, importing my project files into X8's library took experimenting and hours of trial and error. How anyone would want to buy this software after using its trial version, is beyond me. Don't they realize what they're doing, how they're turning us away?
Incidentally, another big reason why I will not manually export/import my library into X8 is that it requires rendering. It seems that after rendering you can no longer use a great new feature on our thumbnail photos and video clips, namely, to be able to locate on your computer where that file is, which I use all the time by right clicking the image. So Corel, what are we to do? With the best of intentions, you created a catch 22. So now please get us out.

Re: Transferring libraries from older to new versions
Hi Trevor,
I made the bold move of buying Pro X8 upgrade, feeling that much of its problems are in its trial version only. Just downloaded it and I'm happy to say that it retained my huge library that I imported into it's trial version. Also, since I did not download it's "Contents" part, (templates, etc.) which I can live without, I still have my library intact. And more importantly, I now have "audio" in my Dolby Digital video clips. So from what I can see, everything is now working. Though, the export/import problem in its trial version remains and needs to be fixed. Definitely! And it's true, there is no Boris affect as was promised. And among its new blue essentials, it's missing essentials 3, and... essentials 5 has only one affect, not the 10 it should have. And these are very usable effects that's missing. Because I have Essentials three and five in my Pro X7, I was wondering if you or anyone there may know how I can transfer those 2 Video Essentials into X8. I hope all is going well for you. Regards , Mike

Re: Transferring libraries from older to new versions
There are a few ways to do that, I find the following method the easiestMike Warren wrote: Because I have Essentials three and five in my Pro X7, I was wondering if you or anyone there may know how I can transfer those 2 Video Essentials into X8. I hope all is going well for you. Regards , Mike
C:ProgramFiles\NewBlue\
open Video Essentials 3 folder
open ULead64 folder (assuming you have the 64 bit versions of New Blue)
Copy and paste contents to C:ProgramFiles\Corel\CorelVideoStudioX8\vft_plug
repeat for any other packages you have
Note: 32 bit versions of New Blue will not work in the 64 bit version of VSX8

Re: Transferring libraries from older to new versions
Mike can you confirm you purchased the Pro version, only the Ultimate version has the Bonus package containing the ProDad etc. extrasMike Warren wrote:Hi Trevor,
I made the bold move of buying Pro X8 upgrade, ..................... And it's true, there is no Boris affect as was promised. Regards , Mike
This would be provided as a separate download file called VideoStudioUltimateX8_64bit_3Bonus.exe
Take care if installing the Contents package that may re-set the library, not 100% sure?
As for my program I am having some issues with my library caused by multiple export Import tests.
I see 14 brightness and contrast filters in the FX favourites, also duplicate in the transitions favourites,
I think there would have been others in Instant Projects except I did not have user created templates?
A re-set may be in order.
