Of course it should be the source video. A 15 sec clip or so should be enough. Why would it need to be converted? Most "storage" site do not require any conversion. Try a cloud site such as Dropbox.TMC wrote: Canuck;
Do you want source video? If so, how would you recommend sending HD video while maintaining original qualities? It would need to be converted to upload to most sites.
And a final question to those making DVDs.. Are you using the 60i or the 30p template. I tried the 30p and it did eliminated jagged edges, but I'm concerned with using 30p for portions of the video that may have motion.

Re: Poor Quality DVD Output
Hi,
I thought i'd post to confirm what the original poster had found...
I'm working with VSX7 and converting HD video (that is UFF) to DVD (SD also UFF). I get blocky artifacts when the camera motion is sweeping left or right when i try and render the usual way (via the Share step). I spent ages trying to find a way around it until i stumbled onto this post.
The only way around to get a better DVD MPEG file is to;
1.first render project to the same settings as the original source.
2. switch off smart render on the share step
3. use File -> batch convert.
4. choose rendered project file as source and pick the MPEG save as type. I tweaked the Profile to output to a Variable rate of 8000 and DVD Quality 100.
Very strange that the batch convert does things differently to the normal share step... but when comparing settings like for like, the file size of the output does change which suggests something else is happening.
I'm a loyal user of VS so things like this let it down a bit. I haven't seen it in recent earlier versions...hopefully improved again when i decide to upgrade.
Thanks for tips anyway guys...
Cheers.

Of course file size will change when you go from HD video to standard video - there is nothing strange about that. The quality will lower - also nothing strange.

Hi,
You missed my point. I meant that if you convert to dvd in the share step and then choose the same settings in the batch convert process...you get two dvd mpeg files...same format properties...different file sizes. Which suggests that the program does the rendering differently when you'd expect it to effectively operate the same.

Sorry, I missed that point. I will have to try a batch conversion. I have never used that process since I never had a need to do that process

Re: Poor Quality DVD Output
No problem...hopefully the issue will be fixed in a newer versions.
I have now gone back and batch converted several of old HD videos to DVD MPEGS, where i thought i'd have to just live with the artifacts floating across some of the scenes. Now they have all converted great!

That's really very useful information, and provides an excellent work-around for an ongoing problem experienced by a lot of users.
