I plan soon to upgrade to X7 to try to cure a problem where Smartsound is greyed out, I think after allowing windows to upgrade to 8.1 [and posted about earlier this month]. I am trying to work out what I might have to do without from the X6 Ultimate I currently run in order to reacquire smart sound. It would seem logical to load the 64-bit version as my laptop is 64-bit but I have noted a few comments about some plug-ins not working on the 64-bit version. Has anyone tried to determine exactly which plug-ins don't work. I think I have previously used Mercalli for stabilising video but I am never too sure which does what so far as the other plug-ins that come with ultimate. Would Rotopen still work?
Thanks for any feedback.
Regards, Peter.

Re: What plug-ins won't run on X7 64 bit
Essentially, the plug-ins that come with X7 64 bit are tweaked to work in the 64 bit environment. But if you have bought stand-alone versions of plug-ins such as NewBlue ones not included in the Ultimate package of VS, or indeed the proDAD ones or any others you bought specifically to work with earlier versions of VS, then you will not get them to work inX7 64 bit. NewBlue say they are working on making their Video Essentials packs -- not those included in the Ultimate packate, at least -- work with the 64 bit version, but that hasn't happened as yet. And proDAD have only recently announced 64 bit versions of their stand-along programs -- but you have to buy them.
In other words, the basic rule is that plug-ins that work in a 32 bit version rarely if ever will work in a 64 bit version unless you have the specific 64 bit version of them. So you will need to work out which is more important to you: those plug-ins or SmartSound (though I have no idea why the latter won't work for you...)

Re: What plug-ins won't run on X7 64 bit
Thanks for that Ken,
I think the only 'extra' I have used in X6 was something to steady the vibration of a hand-held video, which I think was Mercalli, and I have used Rotopen a few times. I read quite a few of the posts about some of the problems with running these things on the 64 bit version but didn't really get a good understanding from the posts about what specific items were giving problems. I think I would rather have Smartsound working than the other extras.
I only noticed that my smart sound was greyed out some time after I allowed W8 to upgrade to 8.1, even though all the smart sound files are visible on my computer. Probably the simplest solution is to upgrade to X7 and if that does not work at least I will have some likelihood of support from Corel for a short time.

Re: What plug-ins won't run on X7 64 bit
Both Mercalli and RotoPen are proDAD plug-ins and in X6 are 32 bit. They work in X7 64 bit so I assume that means X7 has the 64 bit version from proDAD.
As for the upgrade to Win 8.1, all I can say is that the only computer on which I have 8.1 has from a virgin hard disk, without having had 8.0 previously installed on it. And both SmartSound and its 'big sister' Sonic Fire Pro (made by SmartSound as a stand-alone) work fine with my own X7. I know this is no help at all, but at least I can say they *do* work...

Re: What plug-ins won't run on X7 64 bit
Hi Peter
There have been some issues using Smart Sound and windows 8, however not all users experience the problems, which does make it a little difficult to find a solution, maybe different pc’s configurations.
In the meantime try downloading the trial version, maybe give the 32 bit version a run to see if Smart Sound works there, however I think the problem also affected X6 which as you know is 32 bit.
You could try Corels Facebook page maybe they will give a more upto date response as to what fixes are in the pipeline.
As for the Prodad provided by the program, you should be able to copy the appropriate files from X6 to X7 32 bit trial program. I haven’t tried this but they should work?
I assume eventually you will be purchasing the Ultimate version of X7
