Hi,
When I use video overlay tracks, commands and changes to the clips on these track seem somewhat slower than if the clip is on the top video track. There's always a few seconds of catching up.
I'm using x6 Ultimate. Proxy playback, previews and renders are no problem, just dragging or altering the clips.
Anyway of speeding this up?
I usually capture all my footage from the memory card direct to timeline and create proxys (mpeg 6500kbps). Total length of clips - approx. 6hrs

Re: Sluggish overlay tracks
Have you tried copying the files from the card to the hard drive and then inserting from there? That might speed things up a bit...

Hi Ken,
I tried both methods, though the capturing of clips doesn't seem to matter.

I'm suspecting the bigger the project the slower it gets

Re: Sluggish overlay tracks
but you do realise that if you just drag direct to the timeline from the SD card that you cannot edit the video if you remove the card - and if you delete from the card you will never be able to edit that project again. Also while editing VideoStudio is accessing the SD card to allow you to edit - so the speed of editing will depend on the read/write speed of the SD Card.

Hi Brian,
Yes I know that ok. All clips are always captured from the SD Card to a new folder on the PC, so the SD card is long gone once the project is started.

That is not what you said in your first post: "I usually capture all my footage from the memory card direct to timeline and create proxys (mpeg 6500kbps). Total length of clips - approx. 6hrsPhil wrote:Hi Brian,

Are you trying to add all 6hours of video clips at once?

Re: Sluggish overlay tracks
Sorry, my first statement was misleading and I clarify.
I use x6 Ultimate to capture all AVCHD footage from the SD card and transfer to a new folder on my PC. Afterwards, all clips are added to timeline and I head to bed whilst they make the MPEG proxy files. Next day, no issues with operating and editing with the 6-7 hours of footage. Fine up to that point.
I notice that when clips are on overlays tracks, particularly when there's more in the project, there's always a lag or delay when clicking on the clips and trying to manipulate them.

Re: Sluggish overlay tracks
Hi Phil
Wow are you saying you have 6 to 7 hours of footage in the same project?
When I open an existing project the clips (MTS) are loaded/imported to the timeline, it does take quite a while, much longer than working with my older standard definition DV-AVI files.
Eventually the 86 minute project opens and the timeline shows the projects content.
Generating the thumbnail view seems slow so I have set the display to "filename only"
Clicking to select individual clips does seem a little slow with maybe a second delay.
Quite a few years ago I upgraded my ram from 2 to 4 Gb, this did have an effect on the response times being experienced whilst editing. (no change in render times)
Now I have recently upgraded to using HD MTS files.
I am in the mind to increase my ram again. 4 to 8Gb However I hate to spend the money if its not gonna improve things.

Re: Sluggish overlay tracks
Hi Lata,
Like yourself, I have removed thumbnails as a time saver and I don't mind waiting for projects to load (about 1 minute). I have 4gb ram and also using Windows 7 Readyboost from a memory stick.
