VSP X6 project import in VSP X7 how ??

Post by Paul Jenner »

Hi all.

I have made a project in the VSP X6 try out version. I am not inclined to buy X6, because after all X7 is out now (and X6 left a lot to desire imho). For several reasons I haven't been able to finish my X6 project, that is, I did not render the project and did not burn it to BluRay.

You can see this coming .... :)

My VSP X6 30 days try-out period has expired and I want to finish my X6 project in X7.

I have loaded the X6 project into X7 but no succes. A very short snippet of sound at the beginning of my project and no video at all !
Timeline looks odd as well, no miniatures. Just a few blocks that disappear when I click on something.

Is it possible at all to finish a X6 project in X7 ?

Any help would be much appreciated !

Thanks,

Paul.

It should be very simple and straightforward - you save the project in X6 - this will create a .vsp file

Then open X7 click "File >> open project" and browse to the .vsp file click on it and OK it and it should open in X7 just as you left it in X6

Did you "File >> Save" as the last thing you did in X6 with the project open.

Hi
A bit more info
I assume you have uninstalled X6 trial.

When you open the project (VSP) in X7 you may receive a re-link request, this is because the files used in the original project have either been deleted, re-named or moved. You should follow the re-link details to find that file, the window shows the files name at the top left.

Installing X7 64 bit will install to C:\Program Files\Corel
X6 32 bit installed to C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel

1 / If you have used samples from the library then you will see the re-link request mentioned above.
2 / Hopefully you have your video files on your pc in the same location as used with X6, they should not require a re-link?

Hello all.

I tried to open the X6 project just like Brian suggested, but no luck.

Video files are all still in the same place on the same C: drive, same computer.

I have *NOT* uninstalled X6. Is this a wise thing to do before trying out X7 ?

I don't exactly know what you mean by "used examples from the library", but I guess I did not.
My X6 project consists of videofiles from my HD action cam, an audio file or two,
and all the edits, cuts and crossfades.

When you opened the .vsp in X7 did you get any sort of error message - for instance "file #### doe not exist" if you did the error message would have offered the option to relink (that is to re-connect the video files.) - so did you not get any sort of message ?

What Trevor means by "used examples from the library" is - did you use any of the free samples supplied with VideoStudio which appear in the 'Samples' library which is the box containing images in the top right corner of your screen

Samples library - click to view larger.

Hello Brian.

I don't think I used any of the free samples (I take it these are some sort of graphics, animations and the like ?).
I only used my own footage, crossfades and titles
I do not get the error message about relinking. It might be that I got this message a few days ago, at first try, can't remember exactly.

One would expect the project to simply show up in the timeline, but it doesn't.

Would X7 automatically switch to the correct settings for resolution on opening up a project, or should I set the resolution first and then open a project ?

Thanks,

Paul.

Hi Paul

How are you trying to load/open the project.

Go to the File menu top left.

Choose Open Project, browse for your VSP file created in X6.
If that does not work?

Are you able to Zip the VSP and attach to your post, we can try opening to see what happens, we will get a re-link and errors but we are aware of what should be.

and apologies for the reference to 64 bit, I now notice you are running 32 bit.

Trevor,

that is exactly the way I *try* to open the x6 project.

Would it help if I unintall X6 first ?
I gather I will not be able to download the trial version of x6 again ?
(I could decide to simply buy x6 and proceed witj my project, but I am not entirely happy with the program. I was looking into x7 to see if that one suits me better ....)

Hi Paul

I would leave X6 installed on your pc, even though you cannot run the program any x6 files will be in place so wont cause any re-link issues.

Can you Zip and attach the VSP to your post, there is a size limit but I assume it is small enough to attach.
If you cannot attach I will send you my e-mail address.
If we cannot open the project then I would suspect a conflict with the program and not just your PC.

Hi Lata,

I will give that a try
( I am not sure if zipping will make a substantial difference in size, but we'll see ...)

Later,

Paul.
