Help with motion tracking question

Post by maximus01can »

Howdy,

Question is, can an effect be hooked to a motion track or track point so that effect will track the object? I've seen in tutorials where a text box or such can be attached to the track, but being able to have an effect track would be kewl. New to running Ultimate X7.

Cheers and thanks,
Max

Motion Tracking ability has been part of Video Studio since X6, Gripps 2211 channel on YouTube has many tutorials which can guide you through the basics and more

I have not found any that address applying an FX to a motion tracking path. Not sure if it's possible to say for example place a "Punch" or any other fx to a motion path.

Did you watch the 1st tutorial in the link posted? It shows exactly what you want to do - attach a text effect to a motion track.

If that is not what you want then please supply more details

Applying a text effect doesn't seem to be the same as trying to apply fx effect. I tried doing it with a practice affect and couldn't seem to make it work it's probably something that i'm doing wrong.

What exactly do you mean by an 'fx' - do you mean a highlight or similar - or are you trying to apply something from the FX library to the moving object. You can attach anything in exactly the same way as you attach the text box - any object.

for instance you could attach a circle like this :- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jBTnYlPf5AM

Thanks for the help, I may just be doing something wrong then as I tried to attach a "Punch" FX to the motion track path I did of someones face to make it go all funny like the Punch effect does. But it didn't seem to work. If you can attach any type of effect to that path then it should work, I just didn't have any luck.

Nobody has said you can attach an effect as a motion tracker - - only objects you may need to make a separate image of the 'punched' face and use that as the object to cover the basic face.

Yes so that answers my question you cannot apply an effect to the object motion track path and have it perform that effect to the object being tracked. Attaching a stationary image to the motion track path is basically useless when what i was trying to do was have the effect applied on the object that's being motion tracked And change as the path progressed.

Thanks for the help

I have not done this, but could you insert the video in an overlay track. Then add the motion track and the F/X you want. You could for example crop the video to the portion you want to affect... Al

I believe i tried doing that and couldn't seem to make it work but once again i was probably doing something wrong . It would be nice to be able to have the fx applied to a portion of video that you want to be moving. I'm sure there's someone here a lot better at this than i am that could probably make it work though.
