Choppy Audio When Exported?

Post by ViridianScourge »

Hey guys,

I'm running Corel VideoStudio X7 on a 64-bit Windows 7 machine. I've got a video that I chopped to pieces (Two 30-minute .avis, cut down to 11 minutes in small pieces). Tried searching for a similar issue on the forums and came up empty-handed...

Ironically, the movie, when played in the preview window of X7, works fine (I've got a pretty high-end PC, so the resources aren't too taxing on my system).

However, when I export it, it seems like the beginning of a lot of the individual 'clips' have choppy audio for a few seconds. Really messes with the entire video when you're talking about having a movie made up of clips of only 5-10 seconds. I've tried some options just sounded like they may help (i.e. - using SmartProxy).

I normally export in the default settings of AVC/H.264, but I've tried almost ALL the options with the exact same final product. I also tried exporting directly to Youtube, and the audio is choppy at the exact same moments of the other exported videos.

Are there any ways to smooth the audio when you have a "butchered" video like I do? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Can you please right click on one of the original .avi clips in the VS timeline or library window, and copy All its Properties here, or take a screen grab and upload the attachment here. Then we will know what the original audio is. I ask since there are over 800 different video formats which use the .avi wrapper extension, and they have widely varying properties.

Here are the Properties (I should note (Not sure if it matters or not) that since I've changed a few settings, maybe enabled Smart Proxy?, it seems my small clips have been merged into one, solid clip, with a .VSP at the end of the name),

NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Frame-based
(DVD-NTSC), 16:9
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)

Hi

The VSP is simply a project file used by Video Studio to save the edits you apply in the timeline.

You can open the project (VSP) from File Open Project, your VSP may also show at the bottom of the File menu list.

The properties you provided seem to be the project properties which may be different to your video files properties.

You should now see your two 11 minutes clips showing on the timeline.
Please right click one of these clips and select properties.
These are the properties of your video file, what are they?

If you wish using Alt + Prt Sc will copy the window to your clipboard, you can then use an image editor to create an image, attach the image to your post, attachments at bottom of post.

My bad! Properties listed below. I should note that the whole project runs 11 minutes, but it's clipped into about, maybe 50-60 clips? It's just short clips from gameplay footage I made.

(It doesn't like me trying to place the image, so here's the link)

You'll notice that in fact there is no trouble inserting the actual photo -- which I have done for you.

As for the audio, all I can say is that successive versions of VS have occasionally had trouble with certain types of mp3 -- and particularly that encoded using the LAMEmp3 codec. I don't know what audio codec might have been used in this case, but it could be the cause of your problems.

Does the device or software you used to capture the original clip allow you to change the format used e.g. instead of using mp3 audio, can you set it to, say, standard (L)PCM?

The video files I download off of my broadcast channel (Twitch) are in FLV format. I then use an FLV to AVI converter to be able to open it in VS. There are output options.

I leave video set to H.264/MPEG-4 AVC, and leave the audio to Auto (So I'm not sure which it uses). I screencapped the choices below. Any preferences that you guys think would better suit VS' audio capabilities? Maybe PCM-16bit?

That is probably what I would use. PCM is rock standard audio, though the files are larger than with the other choices. You could also use Dolby AC-3. Either would be totally compatible with Video Studio.

Thanks, I'm giving it a try right now and will report back...

EDIT: Worked like a charm! Thank you very much! I'll remember to select PCM in audio settings from now on!

Glad it worked!! 8)

The other thing you could do with your original video, if you want to avoid doing it all over again, would be to use Share and then, on the screen which appears to the right of the preview screen, select Audio and set it to output in PCM. This will produce a PCM (.wav) file which will be exactly the same length as the original. You then mute the original video and insert the new .wav file into one of the audio tracks and edit from there.

You answered my next question before I even asked it! Thanks again for the help man, that step saved me quite a few hours in re-editing.
