Editing VS Pro X5 Audio Tracks With Audacity, etc.
What is the procedure for editing a VS Pro X5 audio track (after Split Audio) with an audio editing program, such as Audacity?
I have unwanted audio commentary portions I want to remove from an audio track, but the process looks tricky....

It is indeed very tricky - especially if you want to actually remove sections of the audio - re-syncing sound and video after editing the audio can take some time and skill.
but if you want to try it - first go to "Share >> Create sound File" and output a sound file to your HDD.
delete the existing sound block in VideoStudio
take the new sound file into Audacity (or whatever) and edit it.
put the sound file back into the sound track of VideoStudio and re-sync it by sliding it left and right to align with the images..

You could quiet selected sections of the audio by making cuts before and after the desired section and mute the audio in the section between the cuts. Adding a "fade-out" and "fade-in" to the previous and following portions will soften the abrupt transition.

I should have said that the procedure I suggested does not require splitting the audio, the cuts are made in the original clip.

Or of course, without any cuts, simply go into audio mode and use the rubber band effect to pull the straight audio line down to the bottom (i.e. muted) for those parts you want muted...

I'm assuming I can also do these suggested procedures within VS Pro X5 also, instead of using an external program like Audacity or Sound Forge....

Re: Editing VS Pro X5 Audio Tracks With Audacity, etc.
Yes. And in the case of my answer, that is the standard way of adjusting volume throughout a project. It's called "Rubber banding" because that single line you see above the graphical pattern of the audio is taken to be the normal level for the audio. To vary the volume you have to insert points in the line and then drag down (or up) the two inner ones i.e. like pulling one point on a rubber band. That gives a fade out and fade in effect, and lowers (or raises) the volume in that area. The distance between the first and second dots governs the length of the fade out, and the distance between the third and fourth dots governs the length of the fade back in.
You have to watch the cursor in this operation as it changes. When it is in the timeline generally, it will be a four pointed figure. When next to the centre line, it becomes an upward pointing single arrow. You left click when this arrow touches the line to insert a point, then move along and repeat the action. Then you go back to the second dot and touch it with the cursor and it turns into a hand with the digit pointing up. Left click to hold and drag the point down or up. It takes a bit of practice but you soon get the hang of it.
