Trevor, thanks, I was able to render the 1 hr 30 min project to MPG so it's now 3.9 GB and I can get it on one disk. Also, crossfades between video and overlay work the same in V6 which I didn't know. Thank so much for your help.

Hi Candy
Its good that you managed to create that video file below 4.3 Gb and will now fit to disc.
You may be able to increase the data rate to 62000kbps, that will produce 4.1 Gb ish but is getting close to the limit.
You need a little spare to create the movie menu.
Templates:-
When you modified the project properties to use Mpeg files that process is very similar to creating your own template.
Go to Settings Make Movie Templates Manager
There are two options in making a template:-
1 / Add – allows you to select a suitable video file, the one you just rendered at 3.9 Gb will do.
This copies the video files properties using them to create a template, give the template a name. (My DVD 6000kbps)
2 / New – allows you to create a new template from scratch, in a similar manner as setting the Project Properties, Give the template a name.
There is a third option to Edit, this allows you to change the template, maybe setting a different data rate for a different movie duration?
You can use these templates to render your projects, they are available from Share Create Video File at the bottom of the list adjacent to the “Custom” option.
I have some info here that may help the two columns for New and Add.
Made with an earlier version shows Tools - Make Movie Manager but you use Settings rather than Tools
http://lata.me.uk/video_studio/manager/manager.htm
You can post the details of your template,
From Settings – Make movie templates Manager select one of the templates in the Available Movie Templates
The details of the template show in the properties window, use your mouse to select all text (left click and drag over text, )
Ctrl+C to copy
Ctrl + V to paste to the forum post.

Re: Burned DVD is longer than movie file, Pro X6
Trevor, thanks so much for this about templates. I really appreciate it. I will make a template and will post here tomorrow.
I'm putting a lot in this one thread but you mentioned VS7 HD to SD quality is lacking. I went ahead and used VS6 like you mentioned. I'll probably experiment more with that when I can render a less lengthy project at higher kbps in VS7, but do you think Corel is aware of this?
thanks,
Candy

Hi Candy
Yes I am sure Corel are aware of render problems using X7.
I am in the same boat as you wishing to render HD to SD and will have to use X6.
I have just installed a Bluray Writer so can burn BD, but like you not all my audience has Bluray players, so I have no choice but to burn a DVD.
I am considering other options to convert the files, if I decide otherwise I will let you know?

Re: Burned DVD is longer than movie file, Pro X6
Thanks Trevor, I'll be interested in what you find.
So the quality of X7 HD to SD even when not compressed for DVD burn isn't good?
Do you know if this would be the same issue in X7 for rendering to MPEG-4 1080p? I do this quite a bit for youtube loads for clients.
This might be crazy but I'm going to do an experiment of doing my "intermediate" render to MPEG-4 1080p or WMV 1080p. I'll try that render on DVD burn and see what it looks like, even though I know Corel will turn it into an SD for the burn. I have another project coming up I'll try it with, will let you know.
I have Nero 2014, have never burned a video project with it. I need ability to do fancy menus. Hm, guess I'll look around in Nero unless you already know?
thanks,
Candy
P.S. On the overlay cross fade issue when overlaying video versus photos, I still had the pops at the cross even though the audio was split clean meaning before any cuts. If I use the fade in and fade out on photos in the overlay I don't get the pops. Frustrating, this was in X6.

Re: Burned DVD is longer than movie file, Pro X6
Trevor, here is the new movie template I made named as you suggested: My DVD 6000kbps:
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Upper Field First
(DVD-NTSC), 16:9
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 6000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 384 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)
Thanks so much for your help.

Hi Candy
I noticed on your other post (X7 Ultimate audio pops with overlay crossfades) that you intend to burn 20 copies of the DVD.
Are you first creating a Disc Image iso, then burning the 20 copies from that file.
That is the easiest way to proceed when requiring multiple copies.
